observation

So I just recently completed my 70mm bg turbo kit on my hci 87 gt. got my wideband on and boost gauge on yesterday. went for a ride, WOT my a/f goes anywhere from 10-10.8 which is coold for now. cruising around the gauge reads lean, and at part throttle it reads lean. obviously a tune will help this. But if I adjust the fuel pressure up then it will be even more rich on wot. what do you guys think I should do until I get tuned

What reading are you getting at part throttle? What about at idle?

it seems to jump around quite a bit. part throttle seems to be anywhere from 13-15 unless I just cruise with it part idle and then it pegs lean, not sure if that is the gauge just cycling or what cuz it starts at like 15 then gradually goes up. All of that seems pretty damn lean to me. but like I said wot its pretty rich

Light throttle and cruising throttle lean is good.

This is called running lean of peak.
You dont need a max power mixture when you are not making max power.

I see 16+ : 1 while cruising down the freeway at very light throttle.

I could get into a lot of technical discussion about about this, but
as long as you are runnning 10.5 -11:1 at WOT and the engine runs
and idles good while lean in light throttle I would not worry about this.

well that is good to hear. Right now timing is locked at 15 and a/f is 10 when wot, does not seem to have the power I am wanting, I realize this is a complete general question and does not have a yes or no answer but I am thinking that with more timing to lean it out at wot I would pick up quite a bit?

How much power have you guys picked up with a few degrees timing with a little leaning? anybody have before and after numbers? Just curious for convo.

Increasing timing while not effect fuel mixture.

Get it tuned before you blow it up messing with the timing.

Its not going to blow up with the a/f at 10 wot. I have the wideband to watch that and if it does not detonate then the timing is fine as well.

Lots of people blow headgaskets and melt pistons too.

Have fun you've been warned.
Increasing timing too far even at 10:1 a/f can and will detonate if you are
not careful.

obviously you don't want to increase it too far, that is just asking for trouble. Thanks for the warning, done lots of research and am of enough experience to know not to get stupid with it. Just looking for some real world numbers what people are gaining going from say a locked 15 to 18-19 degrees of timing.
