89 Notch 306 BG hotside custom coldside MPT70 SLEEPER

89 notch
Engine specs:
306 with Fcam, Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads, TFS 1.6 RR, TFS 18cc dish pistons, Vic Jr intake, 650dp carb
Fuel system:
A1000 through -10 feed/return and A1000 regulator
Ignition:
Crane HI-6 with TRC boost retard and optical pickup distributor with dial-adjustable advance curves and digital 3 stage rev limiter
Power adder specs:
EV hat, 3" coldside through a a2w intercooler, BG CUSTOM TURBO hotside, Master Power T70 with a 3.5" DIY downpipe y'd into dual 2.5" flowmasters (I know...but I can sacrifice power for quiet, X02 44mm v-banded wastegate with 12# spring.
Chassis:
QA1 coilover and k-member front kit, Pro3i lowers, Baseline uppers, QA1 adjustable shocks, 4 cyl rear springs, subframes, torque box reinforcements
Drivetrain:
4R70W with Lentech full manual valvebody, Edge 3000 stall lockup converter, 31 spline axles and Exploder trac-loc
Power steering, AC, and overdrive

First startup was yesterday...sounds mean with the Fcam through a single 3.5" exhaust. That dp was a beeotch to fit past the headers, accumulator, starter, bell, etc....but it works and it fits. Put a vband right by the #4 primary so that I can remove the section of downpipe to access the plugs. To top it off, it was made out of some leftover diesel exhaust :welder:

Now I just need to finish running the exhaust to the rear of the car, plumb the wastegate, figure out what I am going to do about an air filter, relocate to regulator from the strut tower to the firewall so it is not right on top of the header, tie up the odds and ends and she should be rolling! No more non-running turbo stang! Hopefully I will get pics soon, I just need to find my camera charger...

Update: 5/18/09
Block got cracked from a hard freeze while I was out of country on business and had no antifeeze (again, I know) and I was in the middle of a cam/lifter swap because I had a lifter go out and wipe the cam. Repaired what I thought was external water passage crack on back of block and went for test drive and lost most oil pressure, so looks like a stock explorer shortblock is going in reringed/bearing'd and insert fcam What d'yall think?

I know, it needs a wetsanding, some new rims, finish aligning bumper cover, engine is being painted when I yank the engine, run the intercooler lines and tune!

Thanks for the help guys,
Jesse

I need everything in that engine bay...ie, not getting rid of heat or ac. I already commented that I am going to paint the engine bay.

Just because it can race doesn't make it a race car

Most sleepers don't have pin on hoods or "sleeper" written on them.

Yep...you caught me...it really isn't a sleeper...thanks for changing my mind, I'll change the thread to read "all out dragcar".
As for the rest of you...thanks for the support, that's what I needed, a little motivation to complete it!

Just got a replacement Explorer engine for the shortblock. Going to paint the engine bay, paint/wrap the headers and downpipe, rering/bearing the engine, paint some accessories under the hood, reassemble and start tuning. Yay...

I did per the instructions on theturboforum. It's rather easy, not much to do if you know your way around a carb and can drill a few holes.

I guess you are referring to the hanger18fabrication page.

what jets are in it?
what size did you drill the PVCRs to?
brpv?
vent tube extensions?

Do you think that 650 is enough carb for that engine with that much boost?

also wondering the same questions streetfalcon asked

Yes, the 650 will be plenty. PVCR in the front is ~5/64" if I recall correctly, vent tube extensions, no BRPV as of yet (not running, but prepared to make one if I have to) and the jets are the same from my supercharged setup I think 76/88...but all that is subject to change now that it's turbo'd.

Enough to break a stock block. I've seen 650 rw out of it as a single, double it for a twin on a big cube windsor

Pulled the old engine and the old broken lifter's needlebearings had been sucked into the oil pump and every bearing was trash. Luckily the cam was spared. I just took the 100k shortblock and slapped my cam and a new oil pump in it and dropped it in. I was rushed so I didn't paint the engine bay, but I did get the headers bead blasted, four thickcoats of the VHT paint, wrapped, and then silicone-sealed...hopefully it'll keep the heat down underhood. Away on business until the end of the month but once I return I will finish it up, freshen the carb and resume tuning.

I give you props for doing it all yourself.

The only thing I question is the size of your air to water cooler..... it may be a little on the small side for your project.

Nothing but slow chebby's right now.....
