Going To The Dyno Saturday

Going to the dyno Saturday and depending how it does there I might be going to the track right after. What type of power should this car be making? To ME it feels slow on the street but I guess that's what the dyno/dragstrip is for to be sure. Anyways, here is the combo:

302
TFS TW heads
Stock Cam
1.72 Rockers
Exploder Intake
Stock TB
Hellion kit with MP T70(.68 exhaust housing) making 10psi
#42 injectors
BA2400 MAF
GSS340 pump

The car is on a Bob Kurgan mail order tune that has 18* of timing in it currently and the AFR's are in the low to mid 11's under boost. Car is a manual(stock T5 ftw) and has straight through mufflers etc etc, nothing really there that should restrict power. What are your guesses power wise, I'm not super worried about ET at the moment because the car is just now getting some suspension and it'll be on nitto DR's. Just looking for a good figure in the MPH department but it just doesn't feel "strong" on the street to me. Opinions?

500rwhp give or take....although you could get more with some extra timing thrown in (not that you need it on the stock block).

Good lord, you all really think it'll be that high? It sure doesn't "feel" it on the street. I raced a buddies turbo 2v and it didn't go well for me up top and his car was making 440-450rwhp. I will admit if the car makes 440rwhp I'll be beyond happy!

Thanks for the suggestion on checking the timing Bob, I'm going to do that and double check all hose connections/fuel pressure/etc. Hopefully I'll report with 400+rwhp numbers tomorrow!

I’m running 2lbs less boost (although with more timing) through a similar combo and laid down damn near 500rwhp. Of course, there are many variable which could sway the numbers in one direction or another…and you really need to run down the track a few times to verify what the dyno is telling you regardless.

Are you sure the reason you don’t “feel” it isn’t because your spinning the tires into oblivion?

I'm not sure Millhouse but he sure pulled on me pretty good and I would think my fox would weigh less than his car. I do plan on going to the track right after the dyno just to see how the numbers match up, it probably won't trap much over 110mph based on how it "feels".

Turbos do have an odd pull though, we'll see! Thanks guys!

I'm with ya. Something similar happened to me a month ago....and it turned out to be an coupler blew off leaving me with 3lbs of boost! Good luck!!!!

Well took it to the dyno and to the track, here are my results. Looks like I was pretty close on the guesses.

Car made 395hp and 530trq, power peaked at 4250rpm and torque was at 3650rpm. Air Fuel is in the upper 10's up top so I'm guessing I'll have to have the car leaned out a lot up top for the peak power to raise. Took the car to the track right after the dyno and only made one pass, missed second gear and ran a 14.38 @ 108.xx mph. Probably should of went again but after the dyno the plugs were shot, so there is always next time.

Now, based on the car making 395 at 4250, what are some realistic goals that the car can make with the correct air fuel? I think I want to be in the 450-475rwhp range, may have to up the boost some but I'm ready for it. It just felt good getting to drive the car over the weekend, first time it's been on a trip of any sort in 3 years.

Graph(Sorry it's hard to read, even in person):

wow it should have WAY more then 110mph in it !!! I run STOCK motor on 10 psi and trap 120-122 mph. double check everything just to be sure something "little" isnt messing ya up. numbers seem way low for that combo... to me anyway.

if you have plugs gonig bad then there is a issue, with a good tune you can run the same plugs for months with no worries.

now that we have some good info, send the chip back so i can lean it out a bit and give it the timing it really needs... i dont see picking up 60-75rwhp out of the question.

Indeed the numbers are low for the combo, but considering the issues I think it just shows the potential is there.

Bob, I got a video of the wideband and had a buddy video the boost gauge and tach from the backseat, so I plan on sending you those two videos with the chip back asap. I'll e-mail you with some more info and questions to see what you think. Even though the car was so rich I still put 250ish miles on the car without a single issue, minus a little worse fuel mileage than normal from all the hard pulls on the car.hehe

-Edit-
E-mail sent Bob!

Congrats on the new numbers! Once Bob tweaks the tune for you it should pick up quite a bit.
