Which would be better?

Ok, I will be building a motor in the near future and was wanting some opinions on which route to go: A dart block 331 forged motor with a lot of boost 15 to 20psi or a stock block 393 stroked windsor with forged internals and mild boost around 10psi.

I have heard that a stock 351w block can handle at least 700 hp and that is plenty for me as the car will see a lot of street time. A forged stroker rotating assembly in a stock 351w block would be cheaper to build than a 331 in a dart block(I don't want to mess with stock 302 blocks). The bigger motor at lower boost should see as much horsepower as the smaller motor with more boost, right? Which would be more reliable? Would a mildly ported set of twisted wedge heads flow enough for a 393 or should I look at bigger heads. Any help is greatly appreciated as I am new to turbos.

i like the 351 based boosted motors personally. if you paln on making REAL hp plan on upgrading to the dart. i think the manowar is a better block though

Can a 351w roller block take 500-600 hp? That is about all I need for this car on the street.

What size turbo is good to start with on a 351 or 393? I am only looking for 10 to 15 psi.

Dart or Manowar FTW!

Of coarse i have ''yet'' to split a stock block, but thats my .02 cents.

Stock block, GT40 heads, Explorer intake, 67mm, 10lbs, 431HP 497TQ on 110 octane. 12.01 @ 123

Yes but do not forget about any of the misc things you have to change to make the motor fit in there. Also I would not bother stroking the thing for the power goals. The more cubes the more it has to breath and will effect turbo sizing regardless of power goals.

Turbo size is not that easy and you may go through a few to find the one you really like.I was thinking Turbo lately but now thinking 408W and Nitrous.

It is very easy if you just call up a place that either makes them or specializes in selling them and let them size one for your combo/goals.

I'm runing 330 Dart with Precision t3/4 hybrids .. If I built it again being a manual trans I'd have approx 8.5 compression. I could still run up to 20 Lb and have far better low rpm throttle responce..Possibly a custom mech cam so it has nice idle and revs out like most mech cams do...
Even with 330 its EASY to spin tyres.. Even at 100 mph in top.. 3.27 final drive, 17/ 245- 45 series tyres, lsd...In a 3700 Lb car..
Keep in mind building 351 bassed motor wouldn't cost much more than a 302 ... All rotating parts would be custom and close to same price...

1991 XR8 Australian Falcon TFS induction
2014 Falcon GTE Supercharged Coyote

85 Lb inj Custom cam ,P 2000 Haltech ecu...4x's 2 coil wasted spark ignition.Twin SC 61-2s with Dart block, 330/4340 Crank, Oliver rods,7.9/ comp c C.P pistons.. 482 rwkw/ 646 rwhp..A.P 4 pot brakes...TKO
