I did another inspection of the gears where they mesh together when the noise occurs. This was the spot I suspected may have some scratches or debri causing the nosie. This time I used and 8 power magnifier loop to inspect the teeth nothing at all it looked perfect. I even used a tooth pic and cleaned inside the grooves of the teath. Noise or harness still occurs on that spot.

Now I'm debating weather or not I want to try and run it like this and see how it sounds. Or check the bearings in the gear case and risk destroying another high speed bearing when pressing the impeller off the shaft. I really can't see how the new low speed bearing in the gear case could be causing this noise.

have you tried to run oil in it to see if it will clear any small sediment out?

Thanks for the idea. No I have not yet run oil in it. I used an asembly lube for bearings on everything. I thought that too, maybe after running it with oil it would clear up.

well im just thinking that even the smallest piece of anything will cause a rough spot in really tight clearances. who knows, an eyelash could have fallen from your face and lodged itself into the bearing or something... far fetched but you get the idea.

i would plug the drain and fill the case with oil, spin it by hand multiple times back and forth to see if it helps.

Yep seems like a good idea. I will fill the case tomorrow and try flushing it out. Funny thing I notice and don't really know how or why this would happen, But if I spin the blower in the other direction the noise is almost non existant.

Thanks. That was a great description. On a differnt note, does anyone know the policy here about posting a link to this thread on other boards? My Vortech S/C is in a '94 4.0 Ford Ranger. I happened onto this board and thread via google. This information would be very informative and helpful to others who have a Ford/Vortech combination but not in a Mustang. I would like to post a link to this thread over at rangerpowersports, would this be a problem?

Many thanks once again!

I'm glad you understood my explanation. I sometimes take a simple thing and over due it. I don't think posting a link to this thread would be a problem.

Has anyone had a compressor seal go out on their Vortech. I have lost around 4psi of boost and changed every gasket and checked every vacum line on my car. Also I have noticed a large increase in the positive crankcase pressure. The only thing that I can think of left would be either the valve seals and the piston rings are bad or that the compressor seal on the supercharger is bad. Is this a possibility or does anyone else have any ideals?

My compressor seal was leaking oil and that was the reason for my rebuild. I've never heard the seal bleeding boost into the sc case causing back pressure in the engine. Although it sounds possible. But here is the thing how could the compressor seal leak oil into the blower discharge and at the same time bleed boost off into the blower case. Seems to me it would be one or the other.

Guys,

I am not sure what bearings this guy is selling but he sells rebuild kits on ebay for $170. It might be worth checking out.

I really doubt that the bearings for the impeller shaft are angular contact bearing.

I filled the gear case with oil and spun it by hand both ways trying to work anything out of the gears if possible. I noticed again that when turning counter clockwise the rough spot is almost nonexistant, but when turning the normal direction clockwise it still has the roughness at the same spot. It must be the gear timming or something I can't figure out. Well its mounted back on the car and I'm waiting $$$ to buy my new MAF. I'll chime in when I get it running to give an update.

I asked this Ebay seller for the the part numbers for his bearings and if he sells the High speed angular contact thrust bearings. He has not responded to me and that was last week.

Here is a link to another ebay seller who claims to sell the correct angular contact thrust bearing. His price is what I paid for all my parts sourced from different suppliers, looks like a good deal url]http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VORTECH-Super-Duty-Rebuild-Kit-V-1-2-5-7-9-etc_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33741QQihZ016QQitem Z260089158921QQrdZ1[/url]

After a much needed vacation break to Florida. I'm back and was able to finish and test the blower. I Installed the last part I was waiting for a new PMAS Velocity MAF, "Its Huge", 105mm at the bell opening and 95mm at the narrowest point. Anyway start up was flawless and my newly rebuilt SQ idled perfect. The sound was sweet to my ear, a slight whistle at idle below 900 rpm and at 1200 rpm all but the sound of the engine could be heard.

I will post again in a couple of weeks when the roads are dry. We still have snow in the roads. I'm confident that the rebuild will hold up to all I throw at it.

Oowch....Was there any noise or oil leakage when you sent it to vortech. Did they give anything in trade for the Novi.

By the way I've made a dozen wot passes to 5800 rpm and my rebuild is looking good.

yes it had become louder-bearings needed changed-but it still worked great. it had no noticable play anywhere. i also had to buy back my own blower for $100(teardown fee). they offered a credit of $400 toward RETAIL of a new head unit which even after said credit was more than superchargers online wanted straight out.hopefully paxton treats its customers better since i switched to a novi 2000.by the way i still have my old t-trim which needs rebuilt and i would like to try it myself but i sold my impellar to a friend who grenaded his. do you know where i might find another?

Back from the dead ...

This is a really old thread! It's amazing how quickly time goes by.

I sold my car about a year ago and have fallen off the map with respect to the mustang community.

I get emails from the internet from time to time asking me about the rebuild, how the car is doing, etc. To help address those questions and to make the rebuild instructions more complete, I've gone through and collected a lot of the information posted by NotoriousNotch, Dedicated5.0, and 92rohcp and updated the write-up. If anyone is interested in the updated instructions or doesn't mind hosting the new file, please shoot me a PM or email me and I will send the new file to you.

The new file is ~1.6MB.

This is a great post!

I'd send it to Vortech, but the blower would be down for more than a week.

It sucks that they're in California and I'm not.

You might have to apply some heat to the case. I wouldn't heat the case up to much though as it is still cast aluminum. If I remember right when mine was rebuilt we had to do the same thing to get the bearing out...

After looking at my post I did mine almost exactly 2 years ago and it is still going fine. I haven't put a ton of miles on mine but it has definitely been beaten to death since the rebuild.
