Losing power-low fuel-TPS

I've got a stock 2000 SRS and I'm losing power, wants to eventually die, when I'm low on fuel, 1/4 tank or less. It doesn't always happen either. If I shut it off and turn it on again it is fine for a few minutes and starts dieing and losing power again. I did a code check and it came back with a TPS code. I've replaced the TPS 3 times and still get the code. I am missing one of the two screws holding the sensor in place. Could that be the problem. Is this also the problem whan it is low on fuel. My first thought was trash in the tank, I dunno. I replcaed the fuel filter (for the first time ever it looked like) and it was pretty nasty, but I'm still having the problem

Interesting problem. If I had to guess without reading the code, it sounds like a fuel pressure problem to me. Could be a problem with the pump. I don't know why that would trip a TPS code though...

Also, SRS stands for "supplemental restraint system". All mustangs have it, so there's no "SRS model"

Oh, I always wondered why I only saw it on the steering wheel, never gave it much thought, I feel stupid. I don't know that the two issues are related. The idiot light has been on far longer than the power loss problem. Just seems strange i replaced he sensor three times and still get the code. So, maybe it is the missing screw ?
