pinging noise after shutdown

Whenever I switch the car off I here this like tapping or pinging noise from the motor? Check engine light is on and the code is P0171 which means system too lean on bank one. Are the two things related? Where should I start to diagnose? The guy at Advance said to check the PCV tube that it might be sucking air. Any help is appreciated. TIA

the tapping noise could be coming from the catalytic converter.. if the engine runs leans it will burn out the Catalytic converter pretty quick.. or a broken/plugged cat could be causing your lean condition
