Please help when starting....... two problems

i just bought a 94 mustang 3.8. when i put to key on the on position the starter cranks and then the starer does not want to disengage. the stater is still stock. and the wiring seems to be fine. and i got a new relay. what can this be????

Well, I've seen this before and there are more than one possibility, usually it's the starter, what happens is the bendix in the starter gets worn and starts to stick and not disengage. But first disconnect the starter wires from the starter and check to see if you get power at the start signal wire in the "run" position. If there is you may have a bad ignition swich. I've seen some Ford switches get hot and the contacts burn together.

What causes the ignition switch to get hot? Can this cause a fire? What is the cure? Thanks
