1994 - 1998 timing covers

I know there is a difference in the timing covers between the 94/95 engine and the 96-98 3.8L engine. I also know that the difference is the waterpump.

My question is whether anyone has installed the 96-98 waterpump and timing cover on a 94/95 engine? The 94/95 timing cover is virtually impossible to get ahold of as a separate from engine, used part, which is why I am considering the switch to a 96-98 timing cover.

The job on this engine is to reseal the timing cover because it has a coolant and oil leak from it on the passenger side. In the unlikely case that the cover is cracked and it turns out it's not just a timing cover gasket that needs to be replaced, I want to be ready for it.
