That is usually a surefire sign of an intake source vacuum leak. Did you recently have work done to the top end of the engine? Intake to cylinder head gaskets or upper intake to lower intake gasket would be the place to start looking.

If the timing is too low the mixture can still be burning in the headers.

x3, glowing headers are due to being underadvanced, throw 20 degrees at it

I had this exact same thing happen to me on my coupe with 308" motor with t trim.I about pulled my hair out before I found the problem. My problem ended up being my idle air bypass valve.I swapped over to a new valve and the problem was instantly solved. My a/f was ALWAYS perfect but my headers still glowed red within 30 seconds of firing my car up..Temps were running 700-800* on each tube.

Double check your timing!! Too much advanced.timing OR timing that is too retarded will both cause the headers to glow red I have seen it first hand..!

Not sure I've ever seen or heard the IAC causing such a condition... Glowing headers can be too lean or rich, timing be retarded too much or as mentioned previously, vac leak. Since you've done a smoke test for vac leak, then check your timing and verify fuel pressure under load.

Are you still running the factory CAT?

I had never heard of an Idle air bypass valve causing this problem either thats the reason it was the LAST thing I had to replace to find out the reason my headers were glowing red but it 100% fixed the problem on my motor!
