Aluminum Driveshaft ...

As anyone ever installed an aluminum d/shaft into a 1996/98 Mustang V6? If so, which one did you use, & where any modifications required?

'98 GT equipped w/Koni, Eibach, Cobra R rims w/Yokohama tires, Cobra brakes all around & 3.73 gears. Also a Boss330 4.6 Cobra block w/PI heads & stuff from Accufab, ARP, Centerforce, Comp Cams, Fidanza, K&N, Mahle, Manley & Borla exhaust w/Mac Pro Chamber thrown in for grins & giggles.

It'll take the same driveshaft that gt and cobra mustangs of those years take. If I remember correctly, there's a part # for foxes and one for sn95's. They cover all of the years.

Only modification to be aware of is swapping yokes if you have an auto.

Aluminum D/Shaft

Cougarstang ... "It'll take the same d/shaft as the 1996/98 Mustang GT & Cobra."

It will work, but only w/a slight modification. The OD for the d/shaft input on the V8 (GT or Cobra) is 42.75mm vs 38.25mm for the V6. And the ID/splines (as near as I can measure them) are 32.25mm for the V8 vs 28.75mm for the V6. The length (both OA & center to center) & diff flange dimensions appear to be virtually the same (give or take a mm).

What needs to be done to make the 1996/98 V8 aluminum d/shaft fit the 1996/98 V6 is to switch the nose (or input) portion of the d/shaft. Once you install the large (&, unfortunately, heavy) input unit from the V6 d/shaft onto the aluminum V8 d/shaft, everything should be good to go.
