Need some guidance

I am at a crossroads. Not sure whether to drag race my car or go the auto x route. So far, the only suspension mods are MM full length subs (welded), MM CC plates, and FMS C's. Stock LCAs, busings, front control arms, shocks, and struts. See other mods in sig.

I want to do a 5 lug conversion w/10th anniversary Cobras... Here are my questions, recommendations would be appreciated:

1- are 94-up front control arms needed?
2- which 5 lug brakes?
3- coil overs- needed? That big of an improvement?
4- shocks?
5- panhard bar?
6- which bushings?

$3000 max budget!

My goal is to have an occasional track car that drives on the road 1 or 2 days per week.

As far as drag or X. Thats your call. I don't think anyone can help you with that. I'm partial to drag cause thats all I've ever done. So what ever you like that best. Figure that out before you do any more mods!!!

If it were me and I choose drag. I would do other stuff before a five lug conversion.

let us know which way your going to go and I'm sure you'll get alot of help!!!!

If you choose autocross and you can control a car okay, dedicated wheels and race tires are your best bang for the buck.

I'm an avid drag racer, but I want a car that can do more than go fast in a straight line. It's nice to pull up next to a 'vette after a light to light romp, even better if you ripped his rear bumper off going through the twisties.

I've pretty much done all the bolt on mods you can do... so now I need to decide which way to go before laying down more $$$.

Well a road racing suspension is going to weigh more than drag stuff and that would heurt your times.

Best bang for the buck is wheels and tires but skinnies in the front wont help your cornering and large wheels and tires in the front weigh more and hut your 1/4 mile times.

You gotta decide. Drag racing isnt near as challenging as Auto X in my opinion.

It is my firm opinion that a car set up to be even moderately capable for autocrossing sacrifices less to other areas of performance such as drag racing than a specific drag racing setup sacrifices in handling. So my advice is to not set it up for drag racing, you won't be hurting your 1/4 times all that much by making it more handling-capable.

Coil overs are a bit better for handling, but on a budget, I would go with conventional springs. You will save buttloads of money going conventional that can be used in other areas that make more of an improvement.

A few tips:
1. Don't do Cobra brakes unless you are doing F&R at the same time.
2. A panhard bar and torque arm are a great bang for the buck, drag or AX.
3. A set of MM LCA's are always a good investment.
4. Don't scrimp on shocks/struts, get the best, either Bilstein or Koni.
5. If you wanna get serious in AX the MM K-member is a great mod.
Unfortunately it bumps you into C-Prepared or E-Mod.

Glenn, is it a good idea to switch to late model front control arms, or is it unnecessary?

What did you notice with the torque arm?

You can use sn-95 spindles / hubs with your arms. http://www.sn95brakes.com/
