How many has installed a MM PHB?

How many of you guys have installed MM PHB yourself? Was it a hard job, how long did it take? While I do all of my own installs I'm debating this one. I've heard that it has to be perfect or I'll lose the effects of having a PHB.

I have Bassani Catback, will I have to get rid of the tail pipes or can they be modified?

Installing a panhard bar isnt that hard. I did it by myself, but it would definitely help to have another person there. Make sure you have plenty of drill bits and something to lube them with when drilling the frame rails. Also read the MM instructions (online) before you attempt it so you have everything you will need. Their instructions are very thorough and really do not leave much out.

The biggest problem you can run into is your exhaust. I haven't seen or played with a Bassani Catback so I dont know how it would fit.

I did it myself, drilling wasn't fun, but a couple sharp bits makes it a relatively easy job.

6 hours is what it ran me.

Guess I'll go ahead and try it myself.

What are the best kind of bits to use? And I guess a cordless drill won't cut it for this job huh?

Any type of hardened bit will be fine if you don't abuse it. I used craftsman.

Best type of drill would be a 1/2" shank corded.

I used a 3/8" corded cheap stanley, however I had to pay $18 for a 5/8" bit with a 3/8" shank.

I installed mine myself as well. Similar advice to what is above. I also have a bassani exhaust system on my car. Without extensive modifications, the tailpipes will not fit. I am currently running dumps off of the bassani mufflers.

I agree a lot with Tim. Make sure to read the MM instructions.
2 people is a lot better then one. My first PH bar, took me 4 hours by myself.
After that it was 2 to 3 hours. Usually if they didn't care about it being welded in their. Then that was less time(welded).
3 hours for doing the drill into the frame rails.

The Bassani tailpipes will probably not fit. The easiest fix is to get a set of Dynomax tailpipes. They will fit well if installed correctly. Don't install them until AFTER the PHB is installed.

How did you turn your bassani into into dumps? Looks like I will have to do that.

I had Flowmaster, wasn't even close.
So called MM. Tech (Jason) told me Dynomax follow's more of the factory geometry and he was right. They fit perfect.

If I ever get off my duff, I figure I'll tackle it in stages, like I'll mark the holes and drill them, then do the bar install on another occasion. I already have the axle mount installed, since it went in with the coilovers.

I had the same problem. I just bought a 1/2 chuck and screwed it onto my 3/8" drill. Cost less and now I can run the bigger bits!

I left off the tailpipe pieces from the back of the muffler to the tips. I installed some 2.5" x 12" long turn-downs from Jegs. Works well and puts the exhaust right about the rear axle. I plan to put the tailpipes back on someday since my emissions testing here requires them, I will go to one of the local performance muffler shops and have my pipes hacked up to fit.

I have Flowmaster pipes and had no problem clearing. I think I heard somewhere that there was a design change in the way Flowmaster routed their pipes. My catback was actually installed by the previous owner, so they are more than 6 years old.

I will probably run dumps for now. How hard is it to install the tailpipes after the the PHB is installed.

I will probably trade someone my bassani tail pipes for some pipes that work. Or put some 90 degree pipes on so the exhaust come out the sides when inspection rolls around, do you guys that that will work temporarily just to pass emissions?

In the Denver Colorado area I was told the exhaust must exit at the outside of the body of the car. I assume it's because they don't want their sniffers dropping onto the dyno roller during the test.

It's not illegal to have dumps on a car in Colorado, the vehicles that require a State run emissions test on the dyno must have the exhaust exit to the outside the vehicle.

Really Tim!?

You had no problem? Mine where about the same age and I could not get them to go, well...without cutting them up and re-welding them.
It was easier to fork out the $69.00 for the tailpipes.
