Maximum Motorsports Coil-Overs and 17x9s

Those with 17x9s with 275/40 front tires with coilovers what springs are you running,

Currently I have 245/45 tires on 17x8 Cobra R's with coilover springs of 12x250 with hardly any space between the spring and tire. I am wanting to go to a 17x9 Cobra R with 275 on the front and there is no way I can get a 9 inch wheel on it as it sits. I have test fitted an 03 cobra wheel and I can not get the wheel surface mated to the rotor hat before it makes contact.

Would going to a shorter 10" spring raise the lower perch above the tire? What are you running? How did you make yours work?

Thanks for the help!

Also have a secondary question about the steel collars that come with the MM coil over kits that sit under the threaded aluminum sleeve. Are those really necessary? They seem to be a pretty big chunk of metal and weight to bolt to the strut. Is is just something for the aluminum sleeve to sit square against instead of the sleeve sitting against the welds of the spindle mount ears? Will the sleeve be stressed and get torn up from riding on those welds?

I've got 17x8.5" wheels with 5.44" of backspace 255/40/17 tires and they clear my MM coilovers with 325# 10" springs. But I hear ya about the 9" wheels, because I think spacers would be necessary with any more backspacing.

The steel clamp collars must be used. There is no flat surface for the bottom of the threaded sleeve to ride on otherwise.

I'm running MM front coil overs with a 325 lb/in-10" (2 1/2" dia.) Hypercoil. I'm running OEM '03-'04 Cobra wheels with 275's and do not make contact with the spring or its parts. I have MM standard offset control arms with '04 Cobra spindles.

Thank you. Looks like going to a 10" spring will solve my problems.

I've run 95 Cobra R 17x9s with 255/45 R-comps on the front of my 86 with MM K and standard offset arms, 10x300# springs on the Bilstien C/Os. On mine, it wasn't the inside at the spring, but the fender that was the problem. The MM K moves the front wheel centerline forward .75" and I believe the 95 Rs have a 24mm offset. Hence, the fender clearance issue. Unless you're willing to cut the fender pay attention to wheel backspacing/offset too.

Normal offset fox tubular MM arms
SN95 spindles
10" 350 lb/in spring

Have about enough room for a Bic pen between tire and bottom of spring.

That is good to hear. I'm going to be looking for 275-300lb springs 10" tall. That seems like it should fix my problem.
