Helmet Recommendation?

I am going to need a new helmet. The NASA requirements is only SA2000, pretty much any helmet is at SA2005 so no problems there. There are lots of options. I'd like to stay under $300. Looking for something comfortable that would be upgradable to HANS.

Any recommendations based on what you are using?

I'm happy with the Pyrotect ProSport SA2015 I recently picked up for mid-$200's. Comes pre-drilled for HANS anchors, fits great, not terribly heavy.

Find some place to try them on, if at all possible, as they don't all fit the same. IMO, suggestions from others don't matter as much as what is actually comfortable on your head. I found years ago that HJC's helmets fit my head nicely, so earlier this year I bought an SA2015 to replace my aged-out SA2005 HJC helmet.

'89 GT convertible, N/A 357W, MM front susp w/425# coil-overs and Koni D/As, MM TA/PB rear setup (Koni Yellows, 390-430# springs), Stoptech 332mm / 12" Baers, MM 6 point rollbar, Maier 1.5" flared fenders & quarters, 18x9.5" front/18x10.5" rear Enkei RPF-1s (street), 18x10" CCW C-10s (track), etc...

Agreed. I am not sure where there is a good shop that has selection close to me. I am in the Sacramento, CA area. I know that Wine County Motorsports might be good but about 2 hours away. Also, Summit Racing in Sparks (Reno) NV that is about 1.5 hours away. I sure would like to find something closer. There is a place called Tognotti's but last time I was there it was a real disappointment. Years ago it was really good.

Are you doing the track day at Sonoma Raceway? There is a store at the track called Wine Country Motor Sports. They have a big selection of all sorts of gear in store. Friendly and should be able to sort you out.

i can see where you grabbed that from in the NASA CCR in the HPDE section , but i would go abide by this section below in the CCR instead in case you ever step up to another group:

and personally i would get the latest SA rated helmet which is SA2015 now. then you wont have to buy another helmet in 2 years. same goes for any other safety related stuff like seat belts and a HANS etc.

Just so happens that my head fits real well in all of the over $700 helmets. So I bought a racequip and rollet the forehead area with a socket until it was comfortable.

I don't recommend this, go and try them on. Mountain bike helmets are cheaper so I tried them on until I found one that fit, wow some were really uncomfortable.

I have come to that same conclusion.
