Wide track fox

I want to widen the track of my 83 by roughly 3" front and rear. In the rear I have a 99 rear axle, which gets me the 3" in the rear. The front is my main question. I plan on a MM k-member, sn95 tubular control arms, 99 spindles, sn95 tie rods, coil overs, and MM c/c plates. That should put me nearly at the 3" up front. What else will I have to replace along with those front end parts to get everything right?

96-04 spindles is 1/4 of an inch wider on each side
MM forward offset a Arms is another 3/4 of an inch

so you got 1 inch each side wider, time for lots of offset wheels and or wheel spacers.

I thought SN95 axles were 3/4 of an inch wider on each side, how do you factory 1.5 inch each side ?


Im running 96-04 spindles, MM arms and 1 inch wheel spacers up front that should put me 2inches wider each side, plus my SC Saleen wheels have more offset so im thinking 2.25 to 2.5 inches wider each side up front. With 3/4 inch wider each side in the rear.

the 99+ axles are an additional .75" more per side than the 94-98. That is where he is getting those numbers.

94-96 are only 4mm wider, but 99-04 are 8mm wider/side. Also because my fox is an 83, going with an aftermarket k member makes it the same width as the 87 fox, which is 1/2" wider.

Yes, yes you will. Remember wheel size/offset make a difference as well.

I'm drawing on old knowledge here, but I'm 99% sure the SN95 outer tie rods will not thread onto Fox inner tie rods. In your initial post you said "sn95 tie rods" - was that inners and outers?

I don't recall if you can install SN95 inner tie rods on a Fox rack.

'89 GT convertible, N/A 357W, MM front susp w/425# coil-overs and Koni D/As, MM TA/PB rear setup (Koni Yellows, 390-430# springs), Stoptech 332mm / 12" Baers, MM 6 point rollbar, Maier 1.5" flared fenders & quarters, 18x9.5" front/18x10.5" rear Enkei RPF-1s (street), 18x10" CCW C-10s (track), etc...

Pat is correct. SN95 inner tie rods won't fit on Fox outer tie rods and vice versa.

When you install an SN95 steering rack in a Fox chassis car, just install Fox inner and outer tie rods onto the rack. This is 100% bolt on.

The spindle information on the MM website is 100% accurate.

And if he wants to keep his Fox rack, then he would need either MMTR-6 or MMTR-7 (bump steer kit for Fox rack + SN95 control arms), right?

With that said, I would think swapping the '83 rack out for an SN95 rack of some sort would be a worthwhile upgrade. Might be worth doing since you'll be pulling apart a bunch of the rest of the front suspension.

Pat,

When changing from the a 1987-93 V8 spindle to a 1994-95 spindle, the tie rod needs to be lengthened by 0.53". I've done this conversion on a lot of Mustangs with OEM Ford Fox FCAs. There will still be at least one diameter of tie rod (0.56") of threads engaged. This is more than enough. The first three threads carry 90% of the load. The only reason to need more than one diameter of engagement is to make sure that when things are adjusted, by someone who doesn't know what they are doing, that you don't end up with three threads of engagement.

If you do this swap with longer FCAs such as any SN95 FCA or an MM Fox FCA, you may need to use the MMTR-6/-7 kit to have adequate thread engagement.

He's planning on using one of your K-members + SN95 length control arms, so it's more than just the spindle change to take into account.
