Front Cobra/Mach caliper brackets ONLY: Where to find/buy?

For some ridiculous reason, the drivers front bracket broke today at an autocross. As in complete broke on both sides of the rotor. I've never heard of this happening, but i'll search later.

My problem is finding another bracket. I keep finding the entire caliper with bracket. Obviously, a new bracket and i'll be good to go.

Not fun to be 2hrs from home and have zip tires keeping your caliper off your wheel with only an E-brake at your disposal.

Any help on finding a place that sells just the caliper would be great. Would like to try to avoid the dealership if at all possible($$$$$).

Hope you made it home. If someone on here doesn't have one, you can buy them from Baer Brakes. They had them in their e-bay store for $35.00 each a month ago, showing more than 10 for sale of either side. I don't know if that was a special deal or not as I just looked and didn't see them. Good luck. Dale

Thanks, i'll check them out. I did make it home. What's generally a 2hr trip turned into about 3 and 1/2. But I made it.

It made just an insane POP when the breakage occurred. The semi-funny part was, it happened just after 1/2 way through my run. I sorta paused/coasted a bit after I heard it, then proceeded to finish out my run at about 8/10th's......and it was my fastest run of the day. Go figure...

I got pretty creative. You probably can't see, but the pin that holds a Cobra caliper on was obviously missing, but I found a giant wood lag bolt that seemed to help. God help me...

You can't see the break, but it broke right at the top where the thin metal turns into the thicker metal at the top of the caliper. Both sides. The bracket is now in 2 pieces. It only got into the wheel a minimal amount. I few more runs and some brake dust you'll never know a caliper came loose in there.

Whew! They're proud of that powder coating on the DISKBRAKESRUS site! Damn!

Thanks for that link, Bobby!! I searched and searched all day and just got off the phone with ROCK AUTO. They don't have the bracket, but I called and talked to a person that said they did have one loaded driver front caliper WITH bracket for 90 or so bucks.

I went ahead and placed the order because they only had one in stock. He said if there is a problem, and email will be sent tomorrow. If that happens, i'll get the ebay one you have. Again, thank you very much for the search!

^ That powdercoating sucks too. Once brake fluid touches it, the coating kindly exits stage left... I know because I bought a pair of Cobra calipers from them.

Call NAPA. I don't see the Cobra/Bullet brackets online but they have all the GT ones listed.

I tried EVERY parts store you can think of, and even some random hole in the wall places in this town.

Checking with FedEx, it's due to arrive tomorrow and i'm just hoping that it's a drivers side Cobra/Mach caliper.

I did an internet cross-search of the A1 Cardone part number and every site I went to said it fit 94-98 Cobra and came WITH the mounting bracket. Hell, i'm just gonna snag the bracket and send their brand new caliper right back.

In the end, after the core, it should only cost me around 50 bucks.

I have a yearly event coming up NEXT weekend, and worst case scenario I have a buddy with a "garage queen" Mustang with Cobra fronts and he agreed to let me borrow the bracket so I can run the event.

If you'd have just invested in that hollow rear swaybar this wouldn't have happened

I'd sure like to know why that bracket broke.

You and me both. Nothing has changed on the car in nearly 2 years. The last time I had it out was at a track event and everything was fine with no visual or audible signs of breakage.

Knowing my luck, it's just "rare $h#t that happens to me".

For those that might remember me hitting that curb at an autocross last year, busting the wheel, damper and C/C plate.....well, that was all on the passenger side.

Nothing on the spindle appears to be warped, as the new bracket bolted right on and the bolts were snugged up finger tight by hand with no weird gaps and the caliper fell right into the cradle.

There was a TSB years ago for Cobra front brakes. Something about the bracket space not being wide enough to accomodate the width of the rotor. During hard cornering things flex and the rotor rubs against the caliper bracket causing a loud squealing noise. Sometimes the rotor would actually break. Maybe it could cause the bracket to break too.

I'll try to find the TSB.

Wow, that sure looks like a lot of fun. I was never really a big of an of that whole bracket and how it holds the floating caliper in place. I always thought that stock setup, and PBR setup that is used on C5 was a lot better, simply because it used bolts to secure the caliper in place, and it did not put nearly as much load on the bracket. Never seen them brake like that though, or brake all together.

The only thing I can think of is that I got the the one bracket made that had a miniscule flaw in the forging/casting. It really does fall right in line with random "stuff I break that no one else does."

However, for the years of beatings this thing has gone through, I honestly can't complain too bad. Well, except the gigantic diarhea pile they call a TR-3650 transmission.
