Cobra R58 vs Enkei RPF-1

Looking for opinions on which wheel would make the most sense in terms of
performance gain, strength and ride quality vs cost. Application is a 94 GT
with modest suspension improvements and Nitto NT-O5's that will see
occasional track days at Limerock Park as well as some street use.

The 17x9 Enkei is listed at 15.9 lbs., and $250 ea. The Ford Racing R58, (AFS
etc.), 25 lbs., and around $145-165 ea. Real world comparisons from folks
that have had both would be appreciated.

I believe the FRPP R58 weighs in around 21-22#, not the 25# that the knockoffs weigh. I've had several sets of the R58's and found them to be a very durable and good looking wheel. They will also clear both the Cobra 13" brakes and the 2000 Cobra R Brembos.

If the RPF-1 is indeed only 16# it may make a slight but noticeable difference in performance. Keep in mind that you will have to use centering rings with the Enkei's and you have no guarantee they will clear larger brake packages. I have heard that they will, and also that they will not, YMMV.

I had my enkei's for almost 5 years now... before them I had some REALLY heavy and I felt the difference, specially when you start moving the car, i started to track the car when i already had them... so, I can't compare it at the track.

Today, there is no way i would buy a heavy wheel, but that's just me. My advice is that if you can afford it, go for the RPF-1's

If I could find a nice set of original R58's for a reasonacble price, that would
be my first choice. My understanding is the current frpp as well as the 'knock-
offs are around 25 lbs.

Tire-Rack is the vender I am referring to for the Enkei's, and includes hub-
centric rings and lugnuts for the $250. I do plan on upgrading to at least
Cobra brakes in the future so I am considering offset which is 22mm for the
Enkei compared to the Cobra's 24. Thanks for the responses.

I have those same Enkies with Cobra brakes front and rear on my street-driven Fox - they clear fine.

I just weighed an R58 and it's exactly 22 pounds, I've had great luck with mine and when I smacked a curb at around 30 mph last year the wheel took most of the hit and did crack but got my home and still held air for the next week so I know they're strong like bull.

MM subs, springs, and cc plates, Koni SA's, Steeda x2's, front bar, and bumpsteer kit
DBA Rotors, Hawk HPS's, FRPP 3.73's, Eaton diff, and 17x9 Cobra R's with 285 Kuhmo XS's
2008 SJ SCCA Rookie of the Year and 2010/2011 SJ SCCA Solo Chair

If I were going to e paying new prices, I would go ahead and spend the money on the Enkei's since they are a good bit lighter. With that said if I could pick up a set of the Cobra R58's for a song then I would go with those. It just depends. I believe that you can get a 17x10 or 18x10 in the Enkei's that are still lighter than the 17x9 Cobras. I've actually been looking at the Enkei's myself. If the budget can afford it down the road, those are what I have been looking at. I've been trying to keep my eyes on the Tire Rack closeouts with hopes of scoring a decent set for cheap. No luck so far
