Corner Weight and Bumpsteer Results Inside

Hey guys, I just had the chance to take my coupe to a chassis shop and let them do their magic. The car drives unbelievably better. The steering rack chatter is gone (thank the Lord) and the car feels much flatter due to the cornerweighting. In addition to the corner weighting they also aligned it and set the bumpsteer. I was somewhat surprised at the weight of the car... 3144 without me in it.

Tire Pressure: 40psi
Driver Simulated Weight (done with lead bags on the driver's seat): 175lbs

Left Front
945lbs
25 3/4" ride height

Right Front
912lbs
25 3/4" ride height

Left Rear
748lbs
25 1/2" ride height

Right Rear
714lbs
25 3/4" ride height

cross weight = 50%
left bias = 1%
front bias = 6%

What does everyone think?

what do you mean by steering rack chatter and when did you experience it. Also do you know what fixed it?


91 GT, MM Grip Box, 03 Cobra Brakes, 03 Cobra Wheels, 3.73 Gears.

3225 isn't too much higher than mine I would still be content with that. All the S197 guys I'm friends with are right around ~3800lbs wet. I'm assuming the 4-eye might weigh a few lbs less? My car doesn't have any weight reduction besides smog pump removal, the mini starter, and the suspension, it has every option and retains a/c and p/s. I do have a full size battery in the trunk, on the passenger side.

Steering rack chatter is when the wheels "shimmy" left to right ever so slightly during cornering. It occurs at different speeds and at different turns (left or right handers) depending on the vehicle and setup. It's ever so aggravating because the car becomes that much more unpredictable. If the steering wheel is twitching left and right during a sweeping 100mph turn, it's going to hinder the driver's ability to be precise. MFE has said his chatter was basically cured by bleeding the system vigorously before track sessions.

Mine has been significantly improved by the alignment, bumpsteering, and corner weighting, but not 100%. I'm inclined to believe it was more so the alignment and bumpsteering that helped. As I've driven the car over the last few days and really had the chance to push it, I've noticed a tiny bit of chatter rear its ugly head. I'm going to check into different fluids and of course bleeding the system again.

It looks pretty good. From memory those numbers are very close to my '85 GT. I will have to dig up my weights and post 'em up.

Did you weigh is with the spare tire and all the other "stuff" still in the car or did you weigh it "track prepared (no spare. no mats, console empty, etc.)"?

Did this help your braking issues?

Yea, I weighed it with everything ... spare tire, jack, 1/2 tank of gas, back seat, etc.

A few nights before I corner weighted the car, I raised the right rear coilover 3 turns and went to my favorite straightaway to test the brakes ... immense improvement. I stood on the brakes from 130mph and no lockup. So basically the issue was not enough weight on the front left tire... When I do the 347 here in the next couple months, I plan to take the car back to the same chassis shop and have them corner weight it again, and put a pressure tester on each caliper to truly see what's up. I'm lucky to have found a very good chassis shop that is unbelievably cheap for these parts.
