Question Anyone run 275/40/17's on less than 9" rims?

I found a source for some cheap (ok, they were free) take off Kumho 710 275/40/17 from a road racer which should still have life enough in them for autoX duty. The widest wheels I currently have are 17x8.5 ROH and some 17x8 factory wheels. I'm thinking that the 8" rims are too narrow for the 275s... but will the 8.5" wheel work? I know it's not optimal, but I don't have the $$ to get wider wheels at the moment.

Thoughts?

You should be fine with the 8.5" rim. Not optimum but it will fit.

Thanks for the replies. The guy who I got these tires from said he has run 275's on 8" rims as well.
