Eibach coilover install help needed

Hi,

I'm trying to install a set of eibach coilovers on my 96 cobra but I'm running into an issue. I would post pics but corral wont let me post links? Anyhow, at the top of the strut there is a metal collar which is inside these urethane bump stops. With the collar installed, there is no way to push the strut far enough into the spherical bearing on the CC plate and thread on the top nut. The collar is about 3" long. With the CC plate installed, there is about 1.5" between the bottom of the CC plate and the bump stop plate...so do I just cut the collar and urethane bumpers to size?

sounds like you are leaving out spacers somewhere in the process. my MM front coilover kit came with spacers to install between the top collar (basically the upper spring perch) and the top of the strut (threaded end)

edit: page 6 of MM's coilover install guide shows the spacer I'm talking about.

I know you arent doing MM coilovers, but it seems its a similar issue.

Thanks for the reply...I'm actually replacing MM coilovers so I'm familiar with what you are referring to. The problem is the included spacer that goes between the top spring perch and the top of the strut is too long. When installed it doesn't allow the strut to extend through the CC plate enough to get the nut threaded on. It's about 1.5 inches too long. Just not sure if cutting it is the right thing to do?

How many posts do I need lol...I'll go spam some threads real quick

out of curiosity, why are you replacing the MM units?

The spring rates I was running were too high and the increase in NVH was a little much for my liking. I was just going to swap out the springs, but then I found these coil overs which have thin isolators at each end of the spring (less nvh) and looked like a well put together kit, so I thought I'd try them out.

call Eibach and talk to the guy in their tech department...I think the guys name is Dave if I recall right...he helped me with a few things, including the install of my coil-overs...

Thanks man, I called eibach previously and they weren't really able to help me, just told me that aftermarket CC plates weren't supported with this kit (which doesn't really make sense). Just called and asked for Dave specifically and he was able to help me out. They make a separate bushing/iso kit for use with aftermarket CC plates.
