Anyone use hawk HP+ pads for autocross AND daily-driver use?
I understand they may create noise and produce alot of brake dust, the main thing I'm concerned with is their longevity with daily-driver use (and no, it's not for my mustang)...
Any input would be appreciated, especially associated pad brake-in instructions if they vary from Hawk's suggestions...
I had them on the rear of my car. They do produce a lot of dust. The rear rims would be dirtier than the front! I thought they worked well both cold and warm
Thats my experience with them on the fronts. If you ride them to a stop light, it sounds like a train pulling into the station. If you give them a quick stab it's a little more bearable.
Disclaimer to those with wive's/girlfriends that ride in their vehicle with HP+'s:
Be sure to tell them they're "race pads" and normal brakes shouldn't sound like that. Mine let her car go for some time with the brake pads on the backing plates. I only heard it as I was outside one day. When politely asked "WTF were you thinking?!?!?!" Her reasoning was, "Your car sounds like that and you don't do anything about it."
I had the + on the front of my Cobra and followed the break-in. Dust wasn't really an issue for me, but the squealing got old and I didn't use them again. Longevity seemed fine; I loved the stopping power on the street; didn't notice any cold pad issues. Don't know about rotor wear as I changed out to slotted soon afterward anyway.
I have the HPS's on my Cobra, front and rear, stopping power is very good.. but you do get a little squeal as mentioned earlier. On the other hand I havent had much brake dust to speak of but I do wash the car at least once every 2 weeks (if not more)
The HPS is a far different pad than the HP+. I also have the HPS on my front Brembos now, and while there is a very little squeal, it's not as much as the HP+, and there is also very little dust.
Thanks for the input guys!
Again, I'm not using them on my mustang, so dust and rotor wear aren't really factors thankfully.
