Are headlight covers illegal in Virginia? Also, a bit of a rant.

I ask because as I was pulling out of my squadron today, I noticed two civilian type police officers had pulled over a young enlisted kid in some sort of ricer. As I drove by, the officer in his car shouted 'Nice car budddy, take off those headlight covers NOW!'. Mind you, this was with a very, very, ******* like attitude. So I thought to myself, he will have to earn the right to call me buddy on this base. Normally I don't care but an attitude like this, for no reason, pisses me off to no end. The ricer pissed you off, not me.

I pull over, get out, approach his car and simply ask if it's illegal in this state or just on base. I wasn't a **** by any means. I expected him to be an ass but he started calling me sir and said he just wanted to give me a warning and would not have ticketed me. All of a sudden he was acting respectful and like a professional. I expect professionalism from any civilian police officer on base. All military personnel should be treated with respect by the civilians on base, be it enlisted or officer. I really think once he saw me in my flight suite and my rank, he became Mr. nice cop.

I am so sick of the way the civilians act at PSD, the exchange, the pass office, etc. This attitude they have is bull****. I know LT Bob and others have experienced this disrespectfullness towards military personnel. I hear about it all the time from my enlisted folks and experienced it not only from the cops today but from the pass office also. Thats a different story I won't go into. At least I won that battle.

Anyway, not sure if this cop was a rental or a real one but I am not sure I trust his judgement. Just wondering if anyone knew. Otherwise I will call the local police department and find out.

If anyone reads this, I found out from a police officer that yes, they are illegal. The reason being he said that they are dangerous at night and if they only outlawed them, people would forget to take them off at the end of the day. So the state just simply outlawed them. I am probably the only guy who has them anyway.

Hmmm

Yeah I know what your sayin bout the disrespectfullness, I get it all the time. Like my roomate has a 89 5.0, and the cops gave him a hard time cause his city sticker was overdue (like one day) he said he was getting it that day. Well they wouldnt let us on (he is e-4 I am E-5) so we went to the other gate and they had radioed to all the gates not to let us on, I was like WTF, we are just tryin to go to work and we arent even residents of this stupid state... and they said we could go to work but scraped his decals. What a freakin jerk. I dont know what goes through these cops minds, my friend that has a new Grand Am GT still has 2001 city sticker and never has a problem.. I guess thats what we get for having nice fast cars... and serving our country.. major attitudes! Ohh well, yeah the head light covers are illegal, it says when you buy them to check with your state. I feel better now!!

It obviously isn't the head light covers that bother me but the attitudes. In my 9 years in the military, only those who serve as security officers or military police have been an ass without me provoking it. This higher than thou attitude is so damn old. I gaurantee that will be the last time a civilian security gaurd acts like that to me or any military person around me.

Dude, its not just you. Rent-a-cops are a$$holes to everyone. They dont quite understand that their jurisdiction is confined to small mall parking lots and department stores. Their jobs are total jokes for which they will get no respect as long as certain dumba$$es take their "oh so important" jobs to seriously. I know most of the cops in the Newport News area, and most are pretty cool. But there are always the rookie cops who pull over anyone for anything, they are the diks.

Some of the DOD types are real jerks. Some people dont handle
a badge well. They believe they are Wyatt Earp....
I had one stop me in Newport RI, swaggered up to the car with his thumbs hooked over his belt buckle and read me the riot act for driving through housing. If I was his supervisor he would have been working as crossing guard.

Frankly I have never been impressed with GS4-5's. By the way,
I can't wait to see these new federal airport security guards

:(

Sorry to haear about the lenses. I was thinking about putting them on my car.....

military wives

i don't know about Navy, but on langley, higher ranking officer's wives have been known to cut in front of people at the BX or commissary, also, cutting people off.

i had a o-6's wife come up to me in the Shoppette and say look i am so and so's wife so you need to let me go in front of you Airman, so i said ma'am i don't give a **** if you are mrs bush, you can wait like the rest of us. and a few people in line starting patting me on the back.

i wear the uniform just like everyone else, and whether i be at the gym or gas station, if i am in line first i am going first regardless of rank.

Wives are not in the military. Wives have no rank and hold no power what so ever. This is why my wife hates the knives club, I mean, the wives club. Over the years, a few of the CO or XO wives have taken it upon themselves to act like a CO and try to give orders and commands. Don't think so.

Well i will offer my experience. I am a LEO myself. Now for the headlight covers, from my knowledge they are currently illegal at night. I could be wrong, they do change things all the time.

Now the city sticker issue. If it is the same thingas a county sticker, you are exempt from it being in the military. The county sticker shows that you have paid your yearly property tax. I don't know about the city one, i am assuming it is the same thing. They should have let you on the base whether you have one or not.

Had a Datsun 240Z with headlight covers. I had it registered in VA, and had to take the covers off before the annual state inspection or else the inspector would fail the car on that alone. The other 364 - I never had any law enforcement problems (well, not over headlight covers anyway).

Hey, watch it now. :) That's a pretty broad reaching comment! I've actually made that comment more than a few times myself. But I can tell you that there are plenty of GS type workers that actually earn their money.

As a Naval aviator you may be familiar with TACTS and LATR systems. I'm a System Engineer for those systems. I also average 50 hours a week, every week of the year. Some weeks during JTFEX and C2X can get up to 80 hours a week. I am a salary employee.

There are a lot of slackers in the system, but for every slacker there's somebody there doing his job and the slackers.

Just thought I'd share.

Its not like I'm big on headlight covers. His attitude towards me as I am slowly driving by was uncalled for. If I had done something to deserve it, that's different. I get my ass chewed enough by my superiors, I don't need a half-ass security gaurd giving me attitude.

Edward Clark,

Obviously not all GS workers are going to be bad apples. Perhaps my anger got the best of me and I made a smart-ass remark. I apologize if I was being a bit offending. Remember, it only takes one to ruin it for everyone and that jerk is doing a good job. Okay, I am still angry

I knew that and wasn't really offended. Just for the record, I think most of the renta cops on base are contractors with some government supervison. That's part of my job, to oversee a contractor in the running of our programs. Problem is darn contracts and lawyers get in the way of making contractors perform in a desired fashinon.

Then there's the fact that many GS workers really are lazy ****heads with bad attitudes! :)
