I was just wondering whats the most boost to run on a all forged 8-1 comp 331 stroker in a stockblock with a girdle.I have a TDC TT stage 2 kit with edelbrock performer rpm heads,f-303 cam 42lb inj and 255 intank and t-rex fuel pump. I would like to see around 12-13 lbs of boost is that safe with that block?
Maybe the person who read the question is. I was trying to find out what amount of power the stockblock could handle before breaking so if you don't understand don't write nothing
1. You were asking for boost numbers. If you knew anything about turbos, you'd ask in horsepower figures, not boost. Boost the measure of backpressure.
2.Without the turbos you already have enough to break the block in half.
3. A stock block is not good for over 400hp (on boosted apps), not 500. Don't let guesstimates fool you into thinking otherwise.
i just found out today that i cracked my block and i'm making around 550 rwhp. those stock blocks just don't hold .no matter if you got the best forged internals money can buy the block is the weak link. i learned the hard way and this is a d.s.s pro bullet short block with the good piston and aftermarket rods. running 14 psi and 11.9 air fuel ratio hope this helps.
550 fwhp would be the max I would push a stock block, if I cared about how long it lasted. The statement of keeping it in the high 400 rwhp and the rpms down is correct in that it will usually last for awhile like that.
A 351W but then once you spend the money on the misc things to make it work in your car, you get closer and closer to the $2k block which handles a lot more than a 351W. Supposeably a Mexican 302 block will handle it, no idea what they cost and what you may have to do(if anything) to get it to work.
HIT OR MISS sums it up...i was making well over 700 flywheel horsepower on my blown 331..never split...doesnt mean anything just the block gods shined down on me while i leaned on that stockblock
I'm looking for around 600 flywheel horsepower I just don't have 2000 dollars for a block so I guess i will look for a good deal on a used sportsman block or something better than stock. Thanks for all the replies
They lowered the HP rating on the sportsman block. I don't know how much it can handle now. Are the mexican blocks worth searching around for, storking, and adding boost for 500rwhp?
I was thinking about getting the dss level 10 block because the sales rep said they could handle 600 well according lbass they don't handle to much I really don't know how much the mexican block will handle I know you have to put retro fit lifters and stuff to make it a roller cam
the dss level 10 block is suppose to be better than stock according to dss. I might just go with a R302 block I just got to find out if anyone had a heating problem on the street they say the water passages are blocked

yes you're right the dss is better than the plain stock block. i loved my dss block i ran mine for 3yrs 1st year nos 2nd and 3rd year supercharged. and about 200 1/4 mile passes on it. and tons of street driving on it. if you're on a budget you can't beat a dss block out for the money and performance.
just set it at 30pounds of boost and let her rip lol
