I'm about to switch to a Holley EFI system. I'm a Mac guy so I'm going to have to pick up a PC laptop for tuning. Just curious if there is one you prefer. Any particular operating system, screen size etc?
I gave up on Windows a long time ago and switched to Mac. From what I've seen I don't like the newer operating systems lol
I've used many over the years. My current and best so far is a Toshiba Protege M750. Very light weight good battery life. Dual core, 4gig ram, 60 gig ssd hard drive, and windows 7. My intended use is tuning only.
Get something light and as small as you can withstand (some really small netbooks are too hard to see while driving). I don't think you need a ton of processing power or memory considering most tuning software isn't very heavy.
idk about holley but megasquirt allows you to use tablets with the MSDroid app as well so you can pick up a $50-$100 Android tablet and tune with that wirelessly. It also doubles as a digital dash if you decide to mount it.
I bought an HP Stream to do homework on and it works great with my QH. It fits between my gut and the steering wheel while I drive. Only thing I'd change is that had I known how hard it is to operate the touch pad AND the car, I'd have bought the capacitive screen version.
I like the dell xps12 which is touchscreen and does this hinge screen flip thing to alter between tablet and laptop layouts. The battery life is fantastic with an ssd and it's goldilocks in size IMO.
