Newbie to the Corral

Hello! Just purchased an '83 GLX convertible from the original owner. A 36 year old one owner car that needs some love. Looking specifically for help in a couple of areas. There is a huge stink coming from the heater box. I assume I have a rodent infestation. Previous owner had them evicted a few times, but clearly something is stinky. It appears that the heater box has been cut open where the damper is, since I don't think the damper is supposed to be visable above the passenger footwell. Any photos of what the box looks like unmolested will help. Also, there is an old shaft-style radio installed which has a digital tuner. It's obviously wired to the radio circuit, which kills the power with the ignition, so it does not retain the presets or the clock. Which circuit can I tie it to so that it gets its power when the key is off without draining the battery? Thanks in advance for all your ideas!
