86 GT Convertible

Same ol' story, I bought this car 3 years ago with the goal of fixing it up and having an older tire smoker. I got part of the way through it a no longer have time with two small kids in the house. Convertibles of this age and condition are getting very hard to find. I essentially finished most of the interior and some basic mechanicals before the work ended about 1.5 years ago. It does have high mileage (226,000) but engine still runs great. AOD transmision shifts very strong with the installed Performance Automatic Street/Strip valve body. Factory 3.27 differential. Power windows and door locks (except driver door lock solenoid needs to be reinstalled). It needs paint. I have the Carfax report, original California car.

List of what has been installed/changed:
-Flowmaster 2.5" Force II cat-back exhaust
-BFG Traction T/A tires (500 miles on them)
-SVO door panels to replace the original worn out ones. ~4" cut on drivers door
panel (see picture)
- upholstry, carpet and floor mats from 5.0 Resto
- New Dash pad from 5.0 Resto
- repainted center console with functioning lid
- new speakers and Kenwood power subwoofer behind drivers seat
- drivers door weatherstripping. have the passenger door, just not installed yet
- the very hard to find outer window felts ("dew wipes") have been replaced
- PA street/strip valve body
- MASS AIR CONVERSION
- cold air intake
- new rear brakes

I also have the following parts that never got installed (not included in price of car):
brand new FMS 3.73 gears, Raytech installation kit for gears (with bearings), GT-40 tubular intake with new bolt kit and gaskets, C&L 73mm mass flow sensor (19lb), older Edelbrock 75mm TB

see some pic's in my member gallery (bill86gtvert)

Asking $3500 or trade for a 4x4 ATV (300cc or bigger and utility style)

I felt the same way about the 5 speed when I was looking for an '86. After looking for a long time for a 5 speed without success, I found this AOD. I decided that if in the future the AOD wasn't doing it for me then I would convert it to the T5. Even with the cost of the conversion, it still may be less $ than the premium price people are putting on the 5 speed cars.

The car has been garaged since I bought it in 2004. Can't say before that. It has not been in the rain since I got it. The bottom of the door panels have rust due to the previously worn out window felts. The floor pan was in great shape when I replaced the carpet. I'll have to go look at the reinforcements again and take some pics of everything. That may take a day or so. Send me an e-mail address to [email protected] and I will e-mail some pics.

As you can tell from the overall age of this thread, I'm not in a rush to sell it. Would like to see it go to a someone that has more time to play with it than I do.
