Mid 5 second coupe for sale/trade...

Just throwing this out there as a possibility. No hurry to sale…

I put it in the 87-93 section because of the newer lights/fenders vs the old 4 eye. On a coupe I like the newer lights scheme, on a hatch I like the 4 eyes, so sue me LOL.

Chassis:
1980 Mustang Coupe Drag Car setup…
14 point mild steel cage (not certified)
Reinforced lower torque boxes
Mini-tubbed, but frame not notched
15x3.5 and 15x10 with 7.5” BS Billet Streetlites

Probe Shaft 1.6 Rockers
Trend 8.35” 3/8” diameter one piece pushrods
Compcams solid roller link bar lifters
Super Victor intake with 4500 dominator flange welded on. Fully ported to match heads by SAM Racing. Tapped for fogger (haven’t had a fogger on it though). Custom NX Spraybar in the intake below the flange, ProPower style to spray up to 500 horsepower, custom drilled for SBF design runners.
FTI Custom solid camshaft 704/704 268/[email protected] 112 lsa built for up to 300 worth of nitrous and decent n/a performance
2” Hooker Supercomp headers with custom built flanges to match the exhaust port perfectly with 3” wide bolt pattern, 3.5” collector with 6” Schoenfield mufflers (to meet class requirement of mufflers).

Trans:
Art Carr 1000hp Powerglide, with stock case, otherwise everything else upgraded to handle 1k horsepower. 9” converter stalled at 5200-5400 on the transbrake to run decent n/a and still handle 250-300 worth of nitrous. 1.80 first gear, straight cut gears.

Moroso adjustable transbrake button

Ignition:
MSD Digital 6 box with built in adjustable 2 step, 1 stage step retard, and rev limiter

Performance
2700 lbs empty with no driver or nitrous bottle
1.42 sixty foot, [email protected] on motor at 2930 lbs last year, 1.39, [email protected] this year in warmer weather
1.30 sixty foot, [email protected] mph on an 82 nitrous jet at 3040 lbs race weight last month, backed up with a 1.32, [email protected] a couple weeks ago
1.27 sixty foot on one pass having to lift due to other issues
Recent Chassis dyno numbers with the loose 5200 stall
525 rwhp n/a and 710 rwhp on the 82 nitrous jet with very low bottle pressure
13:1 a/f on motor and 10.9:1 a/f on the nitrous with the low pressure of around 725 psi at the end of the pull. Very broad horsepower curve.

The car hooks very well on motor and on nitrous as can be seen by the performance numbers. You can run 6.20 index races on motor or 5.80 index races on nitrous and be extremely competitive. Consistently cut .02-.04 lights and goes rounds. Built the motor around TXDRL Home Evil Street Class, but it looks like that class may be going away and I’m contemplating getting more of a street car and spending less time at the strip. You could put a tighter nitrous oriented converter in this thing and a bigger shot, say up to 400 hp and run 5.30s or better. So far the only trouble hooking it up on the nitrous has been keeping the front end down! Has never blown the tires off.

$19,000 firm or consider a street car trade of same value or cash on your end. Something like a decent built 03 Cobra, 05+ Mustang, Vette, Lightning, etc…

I have a title (not in my name) and a signed Bill of Sale from whom I bought the car. All the engine/trans modifications and some of the suspension parts were put in by me. I tuned out the suspension and have been driving the car for the past 2 years.

Mini-controller and wiring/solenoid setup...yes its messy, but its functional and the controller will handle 2 nitrous kits and allow ramping percentages as well as delay timers.

A torque strap I built to help handle the flex and movement of the motor when spraying it. Not a lot of load put on it, just there to help.

Had to make a custom shaft and use the flaming river u-joints to gain some header clearance. The flaming river shaft was a little too short for the drop mount bushings on the rack that I installed to lower the steering rack for oil pan clearance. This shaft will not come off without unbolting the rack and sliding it out a couple of inches. Makes it much safer than one that could flex and pull out (ask me how I know!).

DS header clearance with shaft...

The motor with a borrowed Pro-systems carb. Now the Davinci carb works just as well and actually sixty foots better than the PS carb was. Both carbs put down identical numbers on the dyno.

Probe shaft rockers...

Carb and mock up for the fuel solenoid...

Scale reading with me in the car, no nitrous bottle or weight. I'm 230 lbs.

Still trades considered for 03 cobra, or 05-newer GT with some mods and a little cash.

I put the 110 pills in the spraybar this weekend and was planning to try some 8.5 tires on it and see what it would run, but the race was cancelled. May go for a T&T session with the bigger pills soon.

Probably so and I don't need to sell it, so I'm not budging much on the price, just keeping the post out there to see what may come my way. I'll keep on racing until it sells.

Trades considered would be a street car with a/c, late model mustang GT (05-newer), 03 cobra, mach 1, vette, or even an LS based camaro, but anything but an 03 cobra will require some cash on your end.

Will also consider part trades for a couple four wheelers or side by side.

Went a [email protected] spraying from the sixty foot mark to the 1/8 mile markers, then riding about 3/4 throttle (off the nitrous) the rest of the track. Only a [email protected] 1/8 mile time due to not spraying off the line. Had I sprayed off the line and hooked, this could have been an 8.9x pass even pedaling it from 1/8 mile on.

Still for sale/trade

Thanks and I do have it posted on YB. Just no-one really buying right now. Its not a steal of a deal, but you couldn't build the car for the price I have on it without taking a long time looking for perfect deals on everything you buy and doing all the work yourself.

My wife just about veto'd the idea of me trading for a vette. She says vettes are for girls. Keep in mind she is not a car person, she could care less, but she says Mustangs are manly and vettes are for sissies and old guys. LOL

I'll still consider all trades, but am leaning towards either an 03 cobra with some mods or an 05-newer mustang with some mods.

Ran a [email protected] Saturday at Evadale. It was a qualifying pass, so I pedaled it from about the 1000' mark on holding around 6800-7k rpms or so. It was a [email protected] to the 1/8 mile. The weather was 98-100 degrees on that pass! The car worked really well all day as far as traction goes. Had a mishap with the starter at the end of the night in the semi-finals. Found the problem today and fixed it. Made another quick wiring change for the waterpump and fan (had them wired together, now put on a separate toggle switch for the water pump so I can cool the water with the fan before circulating).

Next race, HMP 6.20 index in two weeks.

Car went [email protected] mph on motor 10/15/11 with a weak 1.42 sixty foot on a hot track.
[email protected] on a 100 shot, had to let off on the launch when it went left at the hit. Got back in it and still went [email protected] RPM through the traps on that pass was only 7600 too, so might not be as high as I thought on a full pass.

I'm dying to go racing so I have been thinking about trading my street car. I'm really looking for a turbo car but I would consider a trade for my 03 cobra.(2.3 whipple, built SRA,6spd). Car is very clean but you would have to throw in some cash on your end to make it work. PM if its something that you might be interested in...

Back up top. Roll cage just passed NHRA certification. Going to install window net soon and make license passes.
