1967 2+2 fastback

I just bought a 1967 fastback that has a completely straight body and when I went to look the vin up it told me it was originally a 428 4v police interceptor. I did not know where else to post, but I was just wondering roughly what this thing may be worth. I was just looking for a car to put my 351w in and ran across it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Charles

There was never a 428 engine installed into a 1967. That engine was started in the 1968 Mustangs and finished with the 1970 model. The largest engine available in 1967 was the 390 which is an "S" code model. Hope this helps. Like the other post states, the vin would help decode your car...at least the first 5 digits. Good luck!

Correct me if I am wrong (and I am sure someone will) a 428 PI was available in the 67 Shelby GT 500.

The fifth digit should be a "Q".

Odd combos were built back then. So don't completely discount this as BS.

I know of a "W" coded 67 fastback also, for those who know what that means.

If your car is a legit PI car I'd think about scrapping the 351 idea.

If you had the cash and connections, they'd build you about anything you wanted. Could have been a development car or a durability mule. You need a Marti report to fully document this car.

Check the DSO code on the doortag for a 5 digit code instead of the usual 2 digit code. It would be cool if it was a Transportation Services DSO.

Think back to the Tasca/Cobra Jet story. This all took place in 67, so some cars had to have been built with the factory Q motors other than Shelby Mustangs.

I know a dude who claims to have bought new a 67 GT500 with a 410 ci FE instead of the 428. The car was bought new in NY or PA early in the 67 model run. Could be BS, but who knows. Supposedly it was ordered this way.

The only way to go to determine exactly what this guy has. It almost sounds like this may have been an executiv's car, and like suggested above, it would be 1 of 1.
A friend had a 68 Cougar like this. It had a weird VIN (fifth digit). He did the documentation and found that some big wig in Ford had it special built.
So, do your homework, pay Kevin Marti for his premium report, cause you may have something very special there!

Incidentally, under "normal" conditions, the Q was used on 1969 Mustangs to designate a non-ram air 428 CobraJet car.

"R" code is for CJ & SCJ 428 and some 427 models
"Q" is the 345HP 428
"P" is the PI 428 360 HP
"W" is the 66-68 427 SOHC rated between 390 HP and 410 HP for the people that didn't know.

I would definitely order a marti report, looks like you have a mule or exec car.

Just referencing your VIN:

7 - 1967
F - Dearborn Plant
02 - Fastback
Q- Special Code. Could be 390-428

161312 - Numerical Sequence of Assembly.

So if this in fact is the VIN, you have a rare car that was a base model fastback with a FE Motor. S code cars would be a 390 car. A Q code could be a 427 or 428 car. If you could get me the Misc vehicle info I could give you the rest of the information.

Thank you. I am in the middle of moving right now so things are hectic but I should be settled in less than a week and have all the info, so I can figure exactly what I want to do with the vehicle. At first I was just going to build a nice car with fuel injection and my dart blocked 351w but now it seems as though I may need to rethink the future. Thanks again.

So what came of this? I wonder if the guy got a car that had been altered. I hope he didn't get taken.

So did you ever find out what the deal was with your car and it's engine? Is it a special order car or what?

Email me and I will send you pictures. As far as being a special order car. I tracked the car to Maine (titled in 2003) via TXDOT and have all that documentation. I now am running out of time getting ready to go overseas. I am living in virginia and the car is in Texas inside my father's shop.

What? Is it a special order car and did you verify it by Marti report or how? What made it special? Help me out and spell it out for me.

Hey guys I am relooking at the title to make sure everything is kosher. When I figure everything out it will be back up for sale. Again the title is clear but after several inquiries I would like to do some further investigation with what time I have left so no one is getting a lemon. Thanks
