I bought this as a project car from a friend-of-a-friend when I thought I was going to get out of drag racing. Well, that was about 5 years ago and I'm still drag racing. I'm on the fence as to whether I should sell it. If I get a good enough offer, I probably would sell it.
This car photographs well. In reality, there is a lot of work to be done if you're a "numbers matching" kind of guy. No, thats not Ford Mystic paint. Its Bosch 'Ocean' paint which looks pretty much like the Mystic, but costs no where near as much. This car has got the typical old Mustang rust in the pans and the firewall, but its not like swiss cheese either. The steering is pretty sloppy (reminds me of 78 Caddy) so the steering box needs to be replaced. Flaming River makes a nice replacement unit with a tighter than stock ratio. The interior is very clean. The only thing you'd probably want to change is the center council (which is from an 85 Stang). It was in there when I bought it. I personally don't like it, but you might. The car could probably use a brake job too. The greatest thing about this car is the fact that its a good looking mutt.
It is not numbers matching at all so there is really nothing special about this mustang. This means you can actually drive it around and not be paranoid of your "baby" getting hit. If ya do get hit, big deal, its not like its a Boss 429 or a Shelby. I've used this car just to cruise on the weekends. I get the ol' "thumbs-up" where ever I go. It sounds tuff too. I've driven this car to St. Louis and back. So its been pretty reliable when I've had it in running condition (I stole the battery and radiator out of it for a few years to put in another car - they're back in the car now). I drove it around some 2 weekends ago. She still runs pretty good. I would miss this car, but I could use the cash for race parts instead.
This is a great car for someone that is handy with the wrenches who wants a nice looking classic that can be driven anywhere and is not a trailer queen.
