New to forum starting an LS swap

Currently have a 98 GT 5 speed I'm pulling the motor. Joined to see some other builds and maybe get some help along the way!

I have a donor vehicle for the swap a 1999 Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 6.0L iron head with a 4L80e with 180,000kms. It ran fine when parked (a few years ago) and the owner (close friend) lost the key while it sat in the driveway.

I am definitely going the carb route as the car with be a strip car that's ran on the street to get to the track and back and maybe make some noise on some back roads. Plans are to basically run as little wiring as possible to just run lights, turn signals, power windows, etc.

Not sure to go with a TH transmission it stick with the 4L80. Either way it will be a high stall and full manual.

Just waiting on my UPR k member and still need some coil overs.

But for now so far this is where I'm at.

The 4.6 and T-45 are just sitting in there. Everything is unbolted and out the way. Want to buy a lift balancer before I pull the drivetrain. The weather is sucking at the moment and my space is tight and the door is going to have to be open to pull it.

Anyways thanks for checking it out! Finally feel like this may be the forum and section I may be a little more welcomed into with my current engine swap plans.

Welcome to the forum! I don't have a Mustang yet, but i'm looking to do the LS swap (probably a 5.3 unless I find a smokin' deal on a 6.0) into a Foxbody. From what I've read online, the 4L80 is a very stout transmission. When I've seen threads where guys have used them, they usually have to do some "massaging" to the surrounding sheetmetal to get it to fit. Also I think the stalls/torque converters for the 4L80's are a bit pricey. Again, take all this with a grain of salt, as these are just things i've read in other posts...not from my actual experience. Good luck with the swap! And just my .02, if you can't find the info on here, try looking on ls1tech.com.

racin lsc, did you pull a j/y 4L60e and build it up, or did you buy one already beefed up? I'm trying to get as much info as I can before I go off buying stuff for my upcoming build. Thanks! (sorry to hijack the thread...)

First one came out of a 98 Trans am with 68000 miles. that was good for high 10's for years. I think it had a transgo shift kit. Front pump went out once and something else minor, I think it was en electronic part. High hp I would go with a 4l80e. heavier but beefy. I still run a 4l60e but its a RPM level VII trans with a Quicktime bellhousing with a Circle D 4000 triple disc converter. (not budget friendly)

Sounds like 90% track car , 10% street car. You dont want wiring and ecu..... easy choice, TH400 or a glide depending on weight and power level. Building a 60 or an 80 isnt cheap, and not necessary unless alot of street use. Not knocking anyone who runs one, im just saying the 400 and glide are cheaper, very strong, require no controller, and perform excellent at the track. I run a glide in a full weight street car, with 28" tire and 3.73's (albeit, with a fairly tight converter) and its streetable enough for what you and me are doing. Just my $.02
