Wiring questions

Looking to do a ls or vortec swap in my 84 gt turbo car I was wondering if anyone has done this for a street car and made all the gauges and everything work?

Most of the gauges on that car are simple to hook up. Just trans the sending unit to the LS. The tach may not work with out some custom wiring.

Those gauges will be mechanical, the easiest way is to take all the 'sending units' from FORD and adapt them to LS locations.
I was in the process of doing this but decided it was not worth the effort b/c I wanted to know a little more accurately what the TEMP and OIL PRESSURE was so I installed gauges and the only thing in my 88 that works is the fuel level and voltage.
you can take an Autometer 2268 oil pressure adaptor and drill it out for the Ford oil pressure sending unit-which I did and it worked just wanted more info. It will go where to LS OP sending unit goes in the top of the block, PCM doesnt use OP so no worries.
To get the coolant temp-easiest way is to have the head tapped on the passenger side for the Ford sending unit-I did not do this b/c I already had the heads on and thought I was going to have an adaptor made but that didnt work out. Or you can put in in one of the heater hoses which is where mine is now going to the aftermarket gauge.

As for tach: you will have to pull the 'white wire' from PCM and attach to the Factory wiring and then possibly mess with the tach resolution in the PCM.

MPH-depends on what trans you are using. the Ford will be mechanical, if using a TH400 or TH350 then you just need to run the cable to the trans/dash, if going to use a more updated trans that puts out a VSS to PCM (which I would recommend, it can be done with the A3s as weill using Dakota Digital parts) then you will need to convert that to a mechanical pulse. I am using the Abbot Cable X box in my 71 C10 truck to run the stock gauge, so if you want it that way thats one way to do it....

In the end its often cheaper to get new gauges and make or buy your own cluster....Cable X box is +$300....
