LS 415" Coupe project.

This is a pretty cool section... I'm glad they added it.

I've started a ground up LS conversion in a 93 Coupe. Built a 415" LS3 stroker with two stages of nitrous. N/A HP should be around 650 HP and on the gas, it should be around 950 HP. The car is gutted and I'm just about to install a set of Wolf mini tubs and I'll be building a 25.5 roll cage for it. A Moser 9" is on the way. shorten 3.5" per side and I'll be running a 12" rim with 325 DR's. Tranny will be a PG.

I'll post anything I learn along the way, as many of you guys have done (I learned a few important facts here) And I'll post some pics as soon as I'm allowed.

I got my housing and axles today and my wolf mini tubs (Sorry no pics. I'm not allowed for some reason) Tomorrow I'll start mocking up the housing mounts and cutting out for the tubs.

I also got of the engine bay holes filled... Just gotta sand eveything down for paint. And the engine is 95% complete. Two stages of nitrous. (Fogger and a plate) E/T LS7 style heads, GM carb style intake with a Wilson Elbow and a Jesel belt drive cam... It should look killer in the new engine bay when painted.

Yeah, I know some guys will hate me BUT this is my fouth Mustang so I hope I'll get a little slack.

Off the bottle, it should be around 650-ish HP... On the bottle, it should be around 950-ish... I'm looking to go low 8's with the thing on DR's.

The Wolf mini tubs are almost in. (One side done) It's a lot easer to do than putting mini tubs in a F-body Gen IV car, that's for sure. I should have it all done by the Saturday night. Then I can start mocking up the housing mounts and see if 3.5" off each side will work well with a 12 rim and 5" back spacing.

Catching up on this project. The tubs are in and the housing is hanging from the upper mounts. I also tack welded the LCA brackets onto the housing and now I'm measuring everything up to make the lower control arms... I'll have plenty of room, even with 3.5" off each side.

I also mounted a set of 325's DR's on 10" rims that I had for another car. And with 5" of BS-ing, everything clears. I'll order up a 12" version of the same rim soon and it too will clear without a problem... The wheels look killer on the car (IMO) and I think the 12" will look even better. The car will sit low too.

Next up for the rear is a anti-roll bar and coil over shocks. But all of that has to wait until I get the Wolf (through floor) sub-frame connectors. Hopefully they will be here by Friday. I also ordered a complete front suspension kit from RaceCraft. (K-member, 2" drop spindles, coil over struts, manual rack, blah, blah)... You get the picture. All that stuff should be here next week.

Dude that's bad!! Love it and I haven't even seen the finished product. Mine is getting an LQ4/L92 combo probably good for about 550-600hp. I'm sure that I'll end up using a pic of yours for a wallpaper!

Thanks! And thanks, Doc for posting the pics.

The 25.5 sub-frame connectors came in this week so I started cutting out the floor to mock that up... It's going pretty good, but it's a pain in the arse!

That's a very long story... But in a nutshell, I built the engine and all of the drive parts and was ready to install it in the car. But before I did, Whipple called (at the last second) and said that I needed to run 50% of the fuel "through" the blower to cool the rotors. (The rotors would seize if I didn't) Well, the car only had a 8 driver ECU and 8 driver wiring harness so that meant I would have to rip all of that out of the car and start over with a new ECU and wiring harness... The car owner did not want to do that so we changed plans.

Whipple ended up sending me a prototype 4.0L blower with magnesium rotors and a 105mm T/B plenum for the drive... I installed that on a custom intake on a C5R 427 and made 1400 HP at 22 lbs of boost... So the customer was happy in the end... But I would have loved to see that 8.3L run... It would have been something.

Change on plans on this project. I cut out all the floors and will be putting in a 25.2 cage instead of a 25.5. And I'll go back with a much nicer and cleaner looking floor and removable trans tunnel.

The cage is coming along( I'm on and off it right now) but still making progress.

The outer floor bars, A-pillar and roof bars are mocked up and I'm starting to mock-up the funny car cage section this week. I also got all of the front suspension bolted on... All RaceCraft stuff and it fits very well. Just need the brakes and that stuff will be done.

I still have to make the motor plate and mid-plate... But I'll do that when the cage is done. (I need all the floor bars in first)... So I can make the tranny mount off the inboard rails. I'm trying to finish the cage by the end of the month so I can start mounting the engine and place all the plumbing crap. (Radiator, hoses, brake lines, dry-sump system, fuel lines, ect)

I'm back on this project. The cage should be done by the end of next week. And it should be a roller by then too. Then I'll start the engine mock-up for the motor plate(s).

It's a roller!!! And the cage is almost done too... Probably will be by tomorrow night. And I got the anti-roll bar set-up mocked up too. It turned out great! For hard core drag racing, it gonna be killer! More later, and pics when I'm able... :-/

I just have to wait on those guys to get done before I can put everything back together.

Clay,

Hey its Frank, bought the motor and trans out of the coupe from you. I can't believe your car is almost done. I need to stop by and see you. I think I owe you $30-something for the nitrous (haven't forgot).

Congrats on the build. I can't wait to see you make a pass in it.

Thanks guys... I appreciate the props. And it's good to hear from you, Frank. Give me a call and we'll catch up on projects. I have another Mustang just about to go under the knife. (1991 GT Hatchback)... You know me, once I finish one thing, it's time to move onto something else.

I hope to take this one out this weekend for some test and tune runs if I get everything wrapped up. Maybe a few 60' and 330 sprints just to make sure everything goes straight and stays together...

Made it out this weekend. 9.92 @ 139 mph with a 1.5 sixty foot. <(N/A) I had traction issues so could only launch it off idle, but all and all I'm happy with it right now. Next time out I'll turn on the nitrous and use the trans-brake... That should be interesting.
