93 lx coupe, carbed 383 LS1/th400 drag car(pics)

I've been building this car for a little over a year now. Setting it up to run 10.0 to 10.50. And then maybe spray it in the next year or two. Going with N/A goals for now. Here's a link to my build thread on another site.

Looks good

I just missed out on a 6.0 with a broken rocker at the dealer for $200 a month ago.

I would have had one in my car soon. L92 injected with AEM and a c4 behind it.

it would have been cool

Just curious how do you fit the C4 behind an LSX?

You guys are so closed minded. You realize that the LSx motor will, in stock form, run deep into the 12s and knock down 26 MPG on the highway with the A/C on? If I had the money I would build a turbo LS6 and back it with a 700R4 or Turbo 400.

That is one badass project you have going, keep us updated on how it all turns out.

New times coming soon.....

Agreed. And the LSX has unlimited potential. Here is a video of a Z06 that has a stock 346 LS1 bottom and has run 9.93 @ 130+

not imagine what that would do in a 2900lb notch

What's interesting about this project is the guy spent way more money on the mustang than if he had just used an f-body camaro or firebird. The camaro and firebirds already have 4 wheel disc brakes and he had to buy the rear discs for the fox, plus change the spindles on the front. All the suspension upgrades are the same for the f-body as they are for a mustang.

In short, he spent more money and has a car that doesn't handle near as good, has much worse aerodynamics, and had to fabricate motor and transmission mounts.

Can someone help me understand the advantage to all that?

Some people just want to be different. Another point is the potential of those LSX's combos sometimes are hard to beat. I don't think that I would ever do something like that but I respect it and think that is cool.

A swap like this is about as different as painting a fence white. The potential of the LS1 could have been better utilized in the f-body camaro or firebird. Money wasted on the mustang conversion could have been spent in other areas where it would have been more useful, like in the motor.

I suspect I know why this was done, and why someone would have went to the trouble to post it on a Ford website.

Wonder how many members on this site go to the trouble to post the Jegs Engine Master Challenge winners (which have always been Ford) on a all GM site?

LS1 cars are expensive to make them work well.

Heavy to start with. Junk rearends

4 wheels disks are not really needed.

with the AJE k member and a c4 you need a $300 bell and $50 converter adapter.
Headers are just bbk set of 351w with the flanges cut off and LS1 welded on.

With a AEM controling it all that is needed is a adapter harness for the cam and crank sensors and a program change. About $40 in parts.

Just wish I had $4000 or so to put one together.

The 4.6 is roughly 289ci.. the 5.0 is roughly 302ci..a 351 speaks for itself.. 350 vs 302 yeah I'd hope you could win.. Truth be told, the 302 can and will keep up with a 350..

LSX

At the 2006 SEMA show, GM Performance Parts introduced the LSX engine, an all-new cast-iron racing block based on the LS7 engine. It was designed with help from drag racing legend Warren Johnson. It offers displacements ranging from 364 cubic inches to 511 cubic inches (4.25" Bore x 4.5" Stroke) and is capable of withstanding 2500 bhp. This block incorporates two extra rows of head-bolt holes per bank for increased clamping capacity. The six bolt steel main caps are the same ones used on the LS7 engine. The engine debuted at the auto show in a customized 1969 Camaro owned by Reggie Jackson. The LSX will be available starting the second quarter of 2007, set to be available in authorized dealerships and retailers on March 31, 2007.[10]

Lets all go buy Chevy motors! Then let's paint it a Mopar color. And then post on all 3 american forums to see how many pointless arguements we can start! Or just use ford parts......... btw my 351w fits just fine

6.0 stock block and crank with take over 1000 hp no problem.

A set of rods are $400 balance $400 pistons $600
L92 heads and intake $1200 or so.
valvetrain $1000

Don't really need a $6k short block to go 9's

My cheap 408 was $6500 to build

Not so much upset with what they do with their cars, more so aggravated that they feel they can't make any power with a ford motor.

I think LS based swaps only make sense when keeping em nearly stock for drivability and gas mileage.. 300 easy hp and great gas mileage and drivability..

Been out of the game since 2011.. looking to get back in in 2019
