Update.
I took it out for the maiden voyage on Tuesday.. Had it running for about an hour while I was putzing with the boost controls. I pulled into a parking lot in an Industrial Park to make some changes and the car just died.. Could not get it to start. Battery dies, called AAA for a jump. Nothing, no spark at all. Call a cab and leave the car, didn't get home till 1am.. Not a good
start.
Knowing I didn't have spark, I picked up a TFI Module because I had one die in my old Tempo, and they just turn off like a switch. Mine was original from like 87 or 92; old! It has to be it.. I get a buddy to drive me there and swap it out only this time the parking lot is full to the max as it's office hours..ugh... Had to pull the Distributor because there's just no room to get to the little bolts. Go to start it, NOTHING! :livid: In Megasquirt, you can output test Spark, so I know my MSD and Coil are good but it's hard to troubleshoot when you're far from home..
While I was poking for answers on the web, someone mentioned the PIP or Pickup Coil in the Dizzy.. Great, it's a cheap part but nobody has it locally and it's a ship to home part only. F%$k.. I can't wait another few days so I ordered a Summit Billet Distributor.. I usually get my stuff next day from Summit, so that's the ticket.. It shows up, I get there, stab it in and the car fires... :blam:
Great, back on the road after leaving my car in a parking lot for 2 days that I've waited and worked on for basically 8 years.. That's not all. My battery had a shorted cell, so I was dead at a highway exit by myself on Friday when the car stalled.. But I had cables, and got some guy to jump me wiliest everyone is honking the horn trying to get thru the light.. Nobody gives a crap about your problems in this world. You are on your own... I swear it's been one obstacle after another in this build. It's like the Universe is conspiring against me..
Okay, I went to the local Battery Barracks next day Saturday, and the dude is way cool. I've bought from this guy before. I got a huge battery that takes up nearly my whole battery box for $65. The car starts great now. So I've been tuning, and the car is a beast. I'm only at about 7-8 psi right now, but I can roast 2nd gear thru the rev range at will without trying. I bet I can turn over 3rd but haven't tried as I'm still tuning and not beating on it. But the power is there..
Now the new problem I'm dealing with is HEAT! It's like an oven under the Hood. I put my laser thermometer on the Turbine housings, and they were 450 each in park. Probably way more when you're on it... I'm glad I plumbed water to the Turbos, because I can really see how Turbos die from coked oil..
While messing with my Ignition problems, my buddy noticed a fried Plug Boot.. I only had the car running for maybe an hour! Now I need to get some new Wires with some Boot and Wire jackets to shield everything.. I got a set of cheap wires to replace the one so I could get the car back running. I ran the new wire for a couple hours and it was bubbled when I parked it. Doesn't take long in that kind of heat. I had some heat wrap left over to shield it (#5), so it will last for a bit until I get a new set. But that Boot must have been touching the Header and I missed it because it's BARBEQUED...
