The resurrection of an 88 fox - blown 410W build
So my car has been sitting for over 7 years in my lane way just looking a me as I walk by it to get into the house I've finally decided it needs to be brought back to life as I'm not getting any younger and life is to short (I've had a few very close people pass away within the last two years).
So a little back round information on how it came to sit this long, after losing my job (and going threw a divorcee) because of restructuring at work and then being lucky enough to get another job (within the same company that let me go) I decided I'd upgrade my heads as I felt that my ported RPM performers were holding back my 358W T trim feed engine, have a buddy that wanted to buy those I sold them. Then of course as life goes another curve ball, work was being cut to 4 days a week, hum, what to do, buy heads or pay my mortgage, lets just say I still own my house. Now the car was sitting with no heads on it and I knew that number 7 cylinder was hurting form a blow head gasket at the track one night (checked the compression before removing the head and it was only 70 psi with oil) so I decided I may as well tare it down to look into that. When I removed #7 piston I found that both rings were broke, as I removed the rest of the pistons I found 4 more that had broken rings (note to self, don't try and tune an engine without a wide band o2), maybe it wasn't those heads that were slowing me down. Anyway that's how it sat for 7 years, paying support and other priorities in life left little to no money for my car. Roll ahead to 2015, I have a new wife, a better paying job and a little more time.
I decided over the years that I wanted to build a blown 408 so I purchase a stroker crank and rods, I then took my block to the machine shop to have it checkout out and was told it would need another .010" to clean it up so while they were doing that I ordered the .040" over pistons with a 23 cc dish to keep my compression down. It was winter when the assembly showed up and my plan was to but the short block together in the garage until I found out its way to hard to do anything in a non insulated garage, -30 degree freezer. I spent the rest of that winter insulating it. I then spent the summer painting my house which I started the summer before. Which brings use to fall of 2016.
My car sitting in the lane way wasn't overly kind to it so it needed to go for paint. I wanted to try and do this myself but without the proper area and equipment to to it I decided to sub it out. Below is the car sitting at the painters before unloading it
