Poking exhaust through a GT rear end.

Slapping cobra badges on the car without taking the 5.0 off them.

Being pissed that my 93 didn't have tilt steering, but my friend's 88 did.

I got started in 1989 or so before I even had a license. My buddy had an 84 Capri. It was a 302 with the dreaded SROD. It had a Holley carb on it and died if you took corners too fast. One day in Houston a guy driving a van ended the Capri.

I didn't believe in all that fuel injected stuff. I thought they had ruined the Mustang and we would never be able to work on them. I ahd a 76 T/A with a 400 and it just didn't understand how a 302 could beat me. A guy at my high school had a stock auto 87 and just kept beating me. I never did beat any 5.0's with that damn T/A. Both of these cars became parts cars.

Yeah,I remember seeing a lot of guys at the track back in '88-'89 that had Foxes with carb conversions. "I don't need that computerized ####, I can make it run better with a carb!".

I started stomping on 5.0's in 88 with my old 401 GremlinX, kept on doing it through 91. Then I showed them AMC Spirit taillights for a couple of years, it was a 6 cylinder. I didn't get a 5.0 of my own until 2002, POS only lasted 3 weeks, snapped an oil pump driveshaft at 6800RPM.

The Gremmy, 401 AMC, .030 over, Crower Custom 294/580 roller cam, 12.5:1 CR, forged bottom end with Stage 2 ported Dogleg heads, 2.13I, 1.65E, Thorley TriY's, close ratio super T-10, DN O/D and 4:20's.
The Spirit, a 258, Forged steel crank, forged pistons, Clifford 270* cam, 4.0 EFI head, T-04 turbo with 4" straight pipes, 727 Auto and 3.55's.
The First Stang, 83 Cali SSP Notch, 302/T5, 3.27's, rebuilt by an idiot who thought HV oil pumps were neccesary. I was straight line road racing an LS1, was two car lengths ahead of him in 4th at 6800 RPM when the shaft snapped.

Poor little 5.0's didn't stand a chance against either AMC, neither did most Chevies or Mopars.

I turned 16 in 1982 when Ford ran the ad stating that the "Boss is Back."
When I turned 18 I bought my first Capri, it was a '79 Ghia V6 4spd then 6 months later I bought an '84 t-top Capri RS. Mustangs were everywhere, several of my friends owned them and we all hung out at the local parking lot. The whole IROC craze hit and it seemed that anyone I knew either owned a Mustang or an IROC and we spent every weekend at the drag strip beating the crap out of them. For those of you who are too young to have experienced this time period, let me tell 'ya, it was the best time of my life. It was the TRUE beginning of the 5.0 movement... each new year coming out with some more improvements and more power. Good times.

Bought my '89 new off the lot (29 miles on the clock) in July of '89.

Have a pile of Super Ford and MM&FF mags.

Made my own aluminum underdrive pulley.

I was 11 when one of my brothers bought this new bright red Mustang... It was a 86 LX 5.0 5 speed. It was fast back then. He took me for a ride in it one day soon after and taught me about "catching second gear" and burn outs. I was hooked on Mustangs from that day forward. In 1997 I bought that very same LX. I kept it for 5 years. And now I own a 91LX.

But I have many many memories, having dinner with Les Bear in 1998, meeting and staying with John Gullet for WFC 3. Hanging out with Bob Cosby at WFC2, Falling over a tire at WFC2 in front of Steve Saleen and having him drive me to my car cause I ####ed up my knee. Ect, ect.

Mustang Vs GN will always be the most prominant in my head.

Looking back on it, I still think the 87-93 GT is one of the tackiest cars ever made lol.

Even the episode of Home Improvement with Jay leno in the GN and Allen in the Saleen SpeedLabs car having a nice little burnout comp in the parking lot.

drove my first fox body when i was 16 in 1996, it was a 2 tone emerald green with silver bottom gt that had a short shifter and a 6 point cage with swing out door bars, at the time i thought it was the baddest thing ive ever been in being your typical 16 year old driving a 5.0.... as irony would have it my current mustang is a 2 tone emerald green with silver bottom gt, just a smig faster...

I was in highschool in the early-mid 90's and the "ricers" back then were the kids with fox 5.0's at least at my school. I was more of a Chevy guy as parts were more avail. and I had a 66 chevy caprice (think 66 Impalla but the hardtop roof line of the vert...not as fast back-ish). I remember the GN/fox comparo's, reading about how the gt40 stuff was a great setup in the early-mid 90's and reading the reviews of TFS heads as they progressed.

Even as a young Chevy guy I thought the fox was 10x's nicer looking than the F-body.

I was in the later end of it all. I got my license in 94, and thought my 66 was the only real mustang at my high school. Didn't like the fox's at all. one kid ha a 94 gt that daddy bought him. I really didn't like that car either.

I read all the MMFF mags back then, super fords, mustang illistrated, etc.

2 years later I had an 86 GT, then an 87 lx, then a 91 gt, then an 86 GT....I've owned about 10 of them over the years.

That was back when 13 second street cars were fast, and vortech cars went 12's...

Wow I feel old now. My first ride in a fox was my friend's '86 GT and was hooked instantly. Bought a new '91 LX out of the showroom. Remember reading MM&FF back then and about the only aftermarket items were pullies, gears, and h pipes.

I still miss that car.

of course bob cosby,

and i was probably 13 or so around 94. My cousin borrowed his buddys 89 5.0 vert. My cousin picked me up and i thought i was king poo poo in that car. rolling with the top down....damn i thought i was cool #### in that car. That stuck with me and began the lust for stangs. My first car was about 3 years after that and was a clean 92 5.0 LX.

i grew up around Mustangs, both my dad and my neighbor owned(still do to this day) '69 Mach1's. from the time i was 10-12 i was dreaming of owning a Mustang. my dad used to take me for ride in the '69 all the time, we would get all kinds of crazy looks and thumbs up everywhere we went and this back in '83-'85. then one day my neighbor brought home his brand new '85 GT! damn that car was cool as hell! i mean a four barrel Holley from the factory, no freakin way! from that point on i've followed these cars owned a few raced a bunch and am still trying to build my "dream" car. i still remember all the Mustang vs GN wars, reading Super Fords magazines in sudy hall at school and just being amazed that a fox car just went 10's before a Buick did. damn those were the days!!!!!!

In 1995 I bought my first Mustang (67 coupe) while just 14 years old...

The car sat for two years while I tinkered with it. I drove it to HS for about a year before selling it and getting a 87GT in late '97...

I've owned at least 1 fox from 97-09. I sold my last fox in March '09 and currently drive a 96 Cobra...

I will probably sell that one in the near future, and then I dunno...

I can't see myself going back to a fox, but i would love to build a 67-68 coupe.

I am currently split 50/50 whether my next car will be a Mustang or something different (like a M3, 540i, or Z06)

With the Mustangs parts are always plentiful and you get lots of bang for the buck which is always attractive.
