180 degree thermostat ???s

Hi all,
I am interested in installing a 180 degree thermostat. Have a couple questions...

- Where's the best place to buy? I saw one on www.thunderracing.com for $19

- Do I need to buy a gasket?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Don't know about that $19 t-stat, but most like the Mr. Gasket one. I think you can get it at any NAPA parts store.

Yes, you should get a new gasket. Make sure it's a neoprene O-ring and not paper.

You can get a Motorcraft one from Randy at Universal Ford, 410-655-2000. Part # XL3Z-8575-AA. They list for $12.66, but it shouldn't cost you that much. At least this is the one that I got to go with my Bullitt Intake setup. Hope this helps.

Stupid Question: I realize a 180 thermostat would allow the engine to run a liitle cooler--BUT does that help performance or just extend engine life--I have never understood that. Thanks ratman

Allright, I'll check the Pep Boys near here. Otherwise I'll call Randy.

The lower thermostat is to keep the engine a little cooler which helps you make more power.

Thank you,
Jeff
