Post 03 Cobra at E-town on 5/10

Just got home from the track tonight, I happened to spot a bluish 03 cobra sitting in the one of the last lanes. I saw the first run, it ran a 12.0x at 116 or so I forget the mph. It was over 115 I know that. Btw it was on street tires. After the first run N/T was put on the window, so I couldn't find out anymore runs.

DAMN. I hope it wasn't a ringer. I'm not doubting you but, I'll believe it when I see it.

I guess I'm gonna have to get one now. 12.0 @ 116 must have been 14 psi or so.

I heard that they put the stock pulley off of a lightning on it and it ran those times.

Did you mean to say, "Actually, it already does" or are you saying, "Actually, it does need Manley rods"

I really want one now after witnessing that run, but too bad I can't afford it. Maybe when I get out of college I can find myself a nice used one that was owned by a 70 year old lady.. That would be sweet. Untill then I'm stuck with my 99 gt convertible and 13 second slips.

Edit- I saw the Z06 at the track tonight turn a 13.3. Not to shabby

You guys do realize the the 03 Cobra has a built bottom end right? Manley rods, forged pistons and a forged crank.

Seems to be some debate here...yes it does is the answer.

Just my opinion but I think new Cobra owners should be patient and wait before doing engine mods to these cars.

Not saying it can't be done, but to me if you're spending $35K on a car and have 360 hp, what more do you want unless you're really into drag racing ? A car this expensive isn't worth the risk of blowing it up and going for a rebuild.
Either way- I wish '03 Cobra owners luck with their new cars.

The new issue of MM&FF arriving in the mail now has a test of an '03 Cobra coupe. According to the article (which I haven't seen), the car was running 12.70s with a best of 12.67 @110.

There's apparently no mention of Evan Smith's 12.43 @ 113 run at Etown. We'll still have to wait to see what the deal is on that one!

By the way, there apparently are no dyno figures in the article either.

You sure about that?? I'm sure the stock FORGED internals will have quite a decent life, even with aftermarket mods done to the car. Heck, the smaller pulley, and maybe a hair less timing (forgive me if I was supposed to say MORE timing), and I don't see the car going KABOOM, I just see it going 11's.

Lightnings are modded with smaller pullies... I don't hear any recalls there...

While you shouldn't overstate the good things that will happen when these cars get put to the test, by that reasoning, shouldn't we also refrain from declaring the car will go bust?

On the LS1 boards, all I hear is the car is going to break, or the car can't do this or that no matter what's under the hood.

I think everyone should hold their feedback till the cars actually show up at a dealer near you. Of course all the mags have been given ringers- so that means they are all fake right?

Yes, LS1.com looks like Eygpt at flood time...denial is overflowing.

Now for tech...understand this was on F1 Goodyears with a smaller Lightning pulley and no airbox/silencer. At least that's what I decipher from the various reports to include some of the people Snorman reference.

wow!

if that run is true, congrats to the 03 Cobra owners. Sounds like they're gonna kick arse!

However, I'm still baffled on the pulley change? Did the car require a tune of some sort? I can't imagine you just swap a pulley and that is it?

And jimmy, really, 12.7 at 113 for an 02 Z06?? That is horrible for that car, sounds like someone cut a 2.4 60ft...I hope that wasn't his best effort of the night...

Your right. It will run mid 12's at best at around 110-112mph.
The 03 cobra that ran a 12.0 was not stock by any means!!!

If there was an 02 Z running that the guy must have started out in third gear or did not know how to drive the damn thing

Lets get real here. If both the 03 cobra and 02 Z06 have roughly the same rwhp(360) and the 02 Z06 weighs 500-600lbs less who wins here

If evan smith was to drive the Z that same day I am sure he'd have gotten a very low 12 at over 115mph, if not faster!!

Did I stumble onto a vette forum or what?

Please don't start a flame contest and get an interesting thread locked for no good reason. If you are in love with vette's thats great but this is a mustang forum. I don't go to the chebby forums and trash their cars.

I didn't get the impression that anyone trashing mustangs here. They are just saying to keep it real. It is fun and stuff to dream about the 03 Cobra, but facts boil down to, very few people will own them to begin with, and we really need to wait and see what everyday drivers are running in them at the track before any assumptions are made (whether good or bad).
