if you buy a "install kit you will get shims, nut, collar, and both the cone and cup of the brgs for a whole lot less money.
i purchased a table top bearing press from bumper to bumper when i did mine. i found the gears ran the quietest (spelling?) with the contact pattern favoring the inner part of the ring closer to the inner edge). however i pefer a more centered pattern and the gears became slightly noisy. the pattern location is mostly controlled by pinion shim thickness (that is why you you neeed a brg press) backlash is mostly controlled by moving the carrier left or right.
this is not the ultimate info, just what i found, bobn
