ok, ordering gears, have a ?

ok, i was going to order my gears and i was going to get 4.10's. but my friend says that i am crazy and i dont have enough power for 4.10 and to just go with 3.73. he has a 90 gt with some mods( cam, headers, etc and is spraying. i thought i had my mind set, but after hearing that i am stumped. thanks in advance for the help

You'll be fine with 4.10's. I had mine installed, and I honest to god think the thing gets better gas mileage on the interstate. Granted, it's turning 800 more RPM at 80, but still - the numbers don't lie.

It depends on what kind of driving you do. I would have been perfectly happy with 3.73's, but you with an automatic need a steeper gear anyway. Go with the 4.10's - you'll be happy with them.

If you do a lot of creeping around in town and are looking for better driveability, go with the 4.10. If you do a lot of long distance driving on the interstate, go with 3.73's, if your car rarely sees the strip. It depends on how much you're going to race it.

Many people on here will tell you with an auto, 4.30s or even 4.56s are the way to go with an automatic. Me, personally, I wouldn't go past 4.10.

Remember the Cobra has a 16% higher redline than GT, so what works best in a Cobra might be too big a ratio for a GT. Assuming both cars have the same size wheels & tranny ratios, that 16% difference means 3.55 gears in a GT would give about the same speed at redline in each gear as 4.1 gears in a Cobra. Or, alternately, you could say that the same 4.1 gears in a GT would hit redline in each gear at a 16% lower speed.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, just pointing out the difference so you can make the best choice.

That's a good point I forgot to consider. The GT's have a little more grunt off low end I think too. Maybe 3.73 or 3.55 would be the wise decision here.
