"4-passenger specialy GT" ??? They come with 16" rims & tires ???

I saw a GT on a lot yesterday, comming home from work that had 16" rims and 225 tires, with a sticker that said

2001 GT 2-DOOR COUPE
4-PASSENGER SPECIALTY
4.6L 2V SOHC V-8 ENGINE
5-SPEED MANUAL TRANS

lower ont the sticker it says:

225/55R-16 94H tires
16 FORGRED Al. Wheels

Someone told me that it was no differant from a regular GT, accept it had a speed governor due to rims and tire speed ratings. Anyone know anything about this?

Something sound odd. I don't think you can get factory 16s on a 2001 GT. I think by that time all GTs got 17s (either bullitts or the 5 spokes).

Never heard of a 4 passenger specialty either. I don't think anyone who rides in the back of a Mustang feels special. Cramped, but not special.

Is the car used? Dealers say all kinds of crap. I remember someone asking about a yellow Mustang GT that was being advertised as a "Killer Bee" edition

nope...... I looked at it long and hard. It comes with the 5 spoke 16" rims that I see some of teh V6 cars come with...as an appearance package.

It's a "no frills" GT....with no options at all accept for a rear spoiler.
It looks to be new....with original sticker on the window. Someone told me it was a base model with no 17" wheel option for about a grand cheaper......and it has a limiter on it b/c of tire capabilities. Can anyone varify this? these are th rims it has:

17" wheels standard on premium and deluxe gt packages. The Deluxe is the bottom model and comes standard with 17" 5-spoke forged aluminum painted alloy wheels, whereas the premium model comes with 17" premium alloy wheels according to the ford website. It sounds like the specialty car is a V-6 with
Sport Appearance Group includes: Leather-wrapped steering wheel, tape stripe, 16" bright alloy wheels. I would not buy the car

The Above shows that the GT's come standard with 17" in 2001!

I can't confirm that from experience, but those wheels above shows the car is a V6 or someone swapped wheels. I could be wrong though.

Are you sure it wasnt a 00 or below? In 2001 the 17" wheel became standard and no 16" wheel option. I know in 99-00 they had similar wheels to the 16" posted above as base model issue with a governer at 120mph to not exceed the speed rating of the 16" tires.

Wanna bet? There are 3 GT's I know of in my town with 16" wheels on them. There is a Stang or 2 on mustangworld also, I think. And either here or stangnet, somebody posted a pic of their car that came with 16" wheels.

Maybe they swapped out the 17's for some other wheels. Either way, IMHO the "4-passenger specialty" means nothing. Do a little research online, and you'll find lots and lots of GT's and GT convertibles with that on the sticker. If you have doubts about what the car is, the VIN will take care of that.

I have the 16" rims on my 2000 gt and it is not limited to 120 it cuts out at 135. The package there refering to is the no frills GT package. I have not seen any other car with my rims and i was told that there only on the 2000 GT's.

no no ....

it's a 2001. That's a promise.
I went and took a pic of the sticker (excuse the fuzzy-ness, I was in a hurry).

look at the car's title across the top, and the wheels and tires in the "FUNCTIONAL" section.

this is a 2001 GT. The headlights on it are blacked out. It's Laser red. and they're calling it a 4-passenger specialty.

This is a factory 2001 GT with 16" wheels. I guess from what you guys are tellnig me it's got a governor on it. It could be removed with the "proverbial" chip, though, right?

The car has a red tag on the windsheild for 18.5K If the limiter can be removed, and the wheels swapped, then it's cool buy me.....I'm trying to help a friend get out of the 1982 toyota he's driving....he wants a Mustang, and I figured this one might be a cheaper way into a GT... If he can fix the limiter thing.

I have the 16s on my GT. I was under the impression that the 16s were optional on the '00 with the 17s being the standard.

EDIT: Oops, my bad. I didn't read the window sticker. Yeah, that one came from the factory with the 16s. I would say the 16s were still optional through part of the 01 model year.

It's Probably fine to buy if your gonna switch the wheels and put a chip in it. I like it cause it doesnt have traction control.....that was a standard in 2001+ right??

FWIW... I just took a look at the window sticker from my '96 Cobra - and it says "4-PASSENGER SPECIALTY" in the same place. I'd bet it's on ALL Mustang stickers. It's probably just some classification of the vehicle within Ford - not some special package or anything.

I wouldn't even put that qualifier on it. How many times have you run your car to a speed where the governor would kick in?

If the dealer swapped the wheels and tires, they would not be listed on the window sticker. That sticker is made, and applied by, Ford. The car came from Ford with the 16". My '01 GT, built on Nov. 2000, has only one option, the Mach 460. It came with 17" wheels & tires, standard. All of Ford's '01 literature, published in Sept. 2000, says that a GT comes with 17". There was no option on the tires/wheels for a GT. Ford must have made a change to the specs on the GT in late 2001, and made the 16" standard for some reason.

That's pretty interesting. I wonder how many 2001's came that way?

Looks from the VIN like it was earlier in the production run, rather than later. And it's certainly used -- I didn't pull a complete CARFAX, but I punched in the VIN -- it's got 3 records.

Don't worry, the sticker off my '00 GT says "4-passenger specialty" as well. Its just a fancy way of saying that the car has 4 usable seats, that all!!
