Thumbs up Saleen or Roush?

So, which Mustang is a better choice, Saleen or Roush?

Depends on what you mean by better. The Rousch is faster however personally I like the looks of the Saleen better.. If I wasn gonna spend 35K+ on a new Mustang I'd get a 03 Cobra..

Do what I did. I like the Saleen look but thought the horsepower was weak. I got the basic 281 Saleen speedster and put a vortech on it. Now I am happy.

my un-biased view

Saleen: more pretentious, edgier styling, more flashy, more people have them

Roush: less flashy, less pretentious, SIDE PIPES eh hem!

nah, either one is cool. Roush is less known by non mustang informed individuals therefore making it more rare.

Get a 2003 Stage 2 and throw a s/c on it and you will never look back, except at the Saleen's behind you.

Everyone seems to be overlooking the brakes. Go fast...good. Stop fast...even better. The base 281's do not include brake upgrades.

Let's face it, when the '03 Cobras hit the road, neither of these cars will be that attractive.

Here, here! Totally agree. Should be interesting to see how many $50K cars will sell when you can get a Cobra for less then 40.

I will vote for Saleen, but then again, you might say that I am biased.

If you read through a few message boards, you'll see a LOT of people complaining about their Saleen. I have yet to read about a serious Roush complaint. This is just an assumption, but I think Saleen cuts a lot of corners in making their cars. The paint on the body kit is VERY prone to chipping. Many people have dynoed their supercharged S281 at well below the advertised horsepower rating. Speaking from experience, Saleen customer support is pitiful !!! Personally, Saleen forgot to flash my computer and I had to wait 2 weeks to get my computer back from them. Do I regret buying the Saleen over a Roush? No way!!! IMHO the Saleen looks ten times better than the Roush and it always gets more "ooohs" and "ahhhs". I believe the Saleen will also hold it's value better in the long run.

Wait a sec, I take that back....I do regret buying the Saleen, I should have waited for the '03 Cobra!!!

It all really depends on what models you're talking about.

Both Saleen and Roush sell everything from a GT w/a body kit, to a totally reworked and blown motor.

If our determining factor is price point, both the Saleen AND Roush are not a vaule compared to the 03 Cobra.

The looks, are purely subjective. I like the Roush.

I definately prefer the cleaner lines of the Roush, especially the 360R.
There is a fundamental problem with the Saleen design---Single sheave. The Roush has a separate 8 rib belt for the s/c. Saleen has had problems with keeping belts on the pulleys. The s/c load is approximately 40hp, and that's alot to add to the existing 6 rib belt drive.

I am partial to this one...

I guess that is why I bought it.

I am also partial to this one...

I guess that is why it sits in the garage next to the one above.

IMHO if you are comparing a Saleen to a Roush, the Saleen wins easy in the looks department. If you compare performance, with the 18" wheels on the Roush, the cars are basically identical. If you option out the cars as close as possible, you may be shocked to see that the Saleen is cheaper. If you compare long term value, again, I say the Saleen is the better choice.

If all you care about is how fast it takes to go 1,320 feet from a standstill, then even the '03 Cobra is a poor choice. We all know you can buy a GT, then toss some $$$ at it and whip all 3 of them at the drag strip, and still have money left in your pocket.

Sometimes, there is more to owning a car than the time it takes to go 1,320 feet from a standstill.

What he said.

You could just get a GT and slap a Saleen body kit, wheels, suspension, exhaust, and procharger on it and you'd be good to go.
