Leaky intake?

My brother has a 96GT and it started to leak coolant on sunday. He found the leak to be on the intakes front crossover underneath on a corner, like it just pulled apart. Has this happened to anyone before? I felt it and the seam is about 1.5inches long and you can slip your fingernail in it. He is going to JB weld it, but how long is that good for, he is going to colorado in June and does not want it to break out on the road. Otherwise is removing the intake a big job on a modular? Anyone have one they want to sell? TIA

He should take his car back to the dealer and get the intake replaced under the 7 yr unlimited warranty. It's kind of a silent recall on those. The new intake will have the coolant runner made of aluminum.

The JB Weld will last for about 10-15 minutes. Been there done that. I searched high and low for something to fix my Intka ewith and nothing would hold after it heated to operating temps. I say just go to the dealer and have them replace it. Since its a TSB it will be free. You need to find the TSB listings page and print it out and take it with you that way you wont have to deal with anything.

So there is/was a problem with the intakes from the factory? Will the dealership do something about it? I thought there was only a 3yr/36000 mile warranty on that model year car.

You are correct there is only a 3/36 warrenty on that car, but the intake has a recall and will cover the cost/parts for up to 7 years.

Thanks guys, did a search(duh) and found the TSB 97M91. I just never figured ford had a problem with this. I assumed that we got a bad one and now he was stuck. It will make his day.
