1st Time at the track - My times inside

I finally made it to a track, and I am quite happy with my results so far.
Here is my best result (I am in MI visiting my brother so I will scan the slip Monday or Tuesday and post it when I get home).
I was at Lapeer International Dragway and FWIW my car is an Automatic and on this run I did NOT shift manually.
Reaction -- .646
60 Ft -- 2.043
1/8 ET --- 9.018
1/8 MPH --- 83.94
1/4 ET --- 13.770
1/4 MPH --- 103.22

I made 25 passes and had 5 in the 13.7 range and most were between 13.80 and 13.90 with MPH between 101.5 - 103.

What do you guys think? I am pretty happy considering I have an auto and not too many mods.

By Manually Shifting I mean having the car in 1 and shifting it to 2 then to drive versus simply leaving it in D the whole time. When I would do the "Manual" shift I ran a best of 13.835 @ 102.91 with a 2.081 60 ft time.
Thanks for the reply

Nice times man, even if it was a stick! Even more impressive it's an auto! Gotta love that catted x-pipe and Magnaflow exhaust!

WTF man? My auto black00gt could only pull a [email protected] when it had an x-pipe, pulleys, and a magnaflow catback. Basically, the same mods, and you're trapping 6mph quicker?

I hate to say it, but I gotta believe this is BS.

Lapeer seems to be a fast track, seeing some of the times on here that I've seen. I remember everyone waving the BS flag on a guy (can't remember his name) that was running 13.80's in his '96-'98 bolt-on GT.

I was able to use the digital camera and not have to worry about scanning the slip in. Here is my slip from Saturday:

Thanks for the replies

Great job Mike! Looks like the car is running good. As others have mentioned your times are outstanding for what you have done. Can't wait to run with you around here. Later Ron

Nice times man. I totally believe it, I'm not sure why there are non-believers out there? Just take a look at my N/A times... They are through a slushbox auto tranny also FYI, the car only makes 239/280 on the motor.

Ron,
Let me know when you plan on going to the track next. There were a couple of people at the track yesterday who were shocked and didn't believe that I only had those mods -- then when they saw it was an auto they were even more bewildered. I told them to look for anything they wanted and I pointed out the underdrive pulleys, and they told me to be VERY happy. I am very happy to say the least, and I am looking forward to go back to the track to make sure this is not a lucky day so let me know when you are going next cause I really want to see you run.

Mike, Yeah I will call you when I am going. If we run at Thompson your times will probably be a little worse, and if we go to Norwalk they may even be a little better. Either way your times are good especially with 103+ trap speed. Keep on modding and they will only get better Later Ron

So what kind of tires were you running? Street, drag radials or slicks?

I used some of the tips that I saw on here, I avoided the water, did a mild burn out then I took it to 1200 RPMS and hammered it. However, some people there could not believe that I did not have a stick because on the 1 to 2 shift the car screeched the tires every time and on a couple occasions the rear end jerked to the side during the shift. Anyway, on the fastest run of the day I did NOT look at the RPMs, but rather I went off of feel. That is, I tried to feel where they car wanted to launch rather than looking at the rpms and keeping it near 1200 and sure enough it was the best run of the day. However, I would guess it was around 1400-1600 RPMs. I let my brother make a couple of runs and he turned in 3 high 13.7's (13.780-13.790) in a row, I asked him how he was launching and he said that he left the car how I had it (traction control off and O/D off) and went off of the feeling where the car wanted to leap off of the line. The best way he explained it to me was when he went to stage and he was easing off of the gas, the car felt like it wanted to lunge forward.
Sorry for the long winded reply, but I hope it answers your question.

Nice times! I wish I had a track that hooked like that with stock tires! And I never get to race in air cooler than high 60 degrees!

...and why is everyone so quick to raise the BS flag? Us automatics gotta stick together!

Mike, just be glad you were able to prove your times with the slip, and that you didn't have to add what I did to get those times!

I've brake-torqued up to 2000 rpm even with the skinnies. I don't see why people question this for our cars... Press the brake harder. Practice.

Thanks.

i question this cause i want to know i to have an automatic 00GT and an 89lx auto C4 which before i could only foot brake to 1800 before the SLICKS started to spin but i got that fixed by changing my T/Q stall to 3000 and i know our automatic GT's don't have a high stall converter from factory.hey hopefully i to will post some similair times up with my wifes 00GT

I do not know the exact rpm range, but when I was launching from feel rather than looking at the gauge the tires were just about to break free. That is, they were biting but the car felt like it wanted to lunge forward. I would say this was at about 2000-2200 rpms. I think it also had a lot to do with how fast I got to the RPM range. I did not push the gas and try to immediately get to a high rpm range, but rather I would ease the gas and watch the RPMs go up 200 at a time.
Good Luck with the Wife's GT

That trap speed is extremely high for a GT. The speed is closer to a Cobra trap speed. You would need to be around 270 rwhp to get a trap speed that high. Where did you run the car? Was this below sea level in really favorable weather conditions . I'm not saying you didn't do it, but that is pretty amazing for a GT with those modifications. BTW, a pic of the time slip doesn't really mean much. Not that I'm saying it isn't yours, but you could take a picture of some friends Cobra time slip or a stock LS1 camaro (since most stock 98-00 LS1's either run that time and trap speed or don't beat it by much) .

Was this GT purchased new from the factory or did you buy it used from a private seller/dealer?

If he purchased it as a used vehicle perhaps he's unaware of any drivetrain alterations performed on the car?

You'd be surprised how many Mustangs my buddies have purchased that turn out to have aftermarket mods on them... after a drive in them, I can tell if they're stock or not...

Dude, not trying to make you look like you don't know your car or anything... I'm just playing Devil's Advocate. Hotddamn, I wish I could pull off a 13.7 in my 5-speed. I'm just glad we're on the same side cause that AOD Stang would whoop my behind real bad...

Wait til I get my Steeda Tri-Ax installed! That's good for 15 at the wheels with the 30% shorter throws

I used PVC and ran an elbow down into the quarter panel. If you would like I will take a pic of it and post it for you.

I purchased it brand new with 5 miles on it from Bass Ford.
