Unhappy 4.30 gear problems

I had 4.30s installed last week, after the install I had this thumping noise comming from the rear end.Well I took the car to another shop, couldn't any were with the first shop. They called me today and told me that 5 bolts wore busted off of the ring gear and that when I was in a higher gear like 4th or 5th that the ring gear was moving back & forth.Well it messed up the gears, carrier brgs,So instead of paying once I am paying twice.

Question should I stay with the 4.30s or go with 4.56s what is the RPM differents between the to?

Stay with 4.30s or go with 4.10s unless you plan on being a full time drag car. I know there are lots of guys on here with huge gears, but I drive my car more than I race my car, and 4.30s in my car are almost too much. Anytime I have to race someone, I'm in 5th while they are still in 3rd or 4th. At the strip they are fun with some sticky tires, but anywhere else, you don't really need the big gears.

Ah, I think your first problem is dealing with the place that screwed up the install. You have the right as a customer to get your money back and get reimbursed for what their bad install broke. Don't let them rip you off. Stand up for your rights, and make them pay. I know it will be a hasle, but damn that is a lot of money that they just screwed you out of.

Good luck, and I vote for the 4.30's.

I fully agree.. This is not only a problem, but also a safety problem with the previous installers. Make them pay! and be sure to make their name public on this board!

I would stick with the 4.30's unless you really race 1/4 mile a lot or spend all your time driving around town. The 4.56's are going to net you a better ET with traction, you just have to decide if the sacrafice is worth it.

For me 4.30's are almost more then I can tolerate on the interstate, at least in combination with the suspension I have.

Don't feel to bad about your gears, hell I had the original shop try to do mine 3 times, then took it to another shop that made a valiant to attempt to get rid of the noise. Even took it to a 3rd shop where I bought all new gears, diff, bearings etc. and still have gear noise. Talk about spending some money and going nowhere.

4.30's a fine for every day driving. I know a few guys that have 4.56's and say there are fine. I not one of them. My .02 cents Have not had any trouble with install.

If you're staying N/A, stick with the 4.30's. And get your damn money back or blow up the store that ruined your gears.

I've had them both and vote for 4.56s.

I've had 4.10, 4.30, and 4.56 gears and I like 'em all, but 4.30s are good all around. But I may wind up with 28" tires and a 4.89 gear unless I go with a power adder, LOL.
