LOOK AT MY CAR 42k invested-what is it worth

I must sell my car as I bought a 2002 lightning. The car is in mint condition (garage kept), 42,000 miles, new toyo t1s tires, just rebuilt tranny ($1700.00) and everything in SIG. What do you guys think it is worth?

You're gonna have a hard time getting close to what you have in it, but if you can find a buyer who falls in love with those cosmetics, you'll be in better shape.
Otherwise, all I can say, is that it's a 2000 GT and worth around $20k and that's being nice to you.

I'd strip off and sell the mods and replace with the originals, if you have them.

Yea, you'll be lucky to get 17K for it, with that many miles. Take as much as you can off and sell it you'll get more of your money back that way.

The mods on the car are only worth what they are in the wallet right now. Spent money. Not until you can find an enthusiast who wants that car, and can't get it from a dealership for the same price you just invested, like Max said, it's still a GT with 42k on the clock.

Pull the mods, sell the car alone.

You most likely will not like the following...

2000 Ford Mustang 2 Dr GT Coupe

Base Price excludes options

Dealer Trade-In: What Others Are Getting $13,026
Private Party: What Others Are Getting/Paying $14,625
Dealer Retail: What Others Are Paying $16,101

With the milage, you better find someone who has the exact same taste as you, or prepare for getting less than $15k.

Start taking off as much stuff as you can to sell on ebay, and try to put the car back to stock(ish).

Good luck!

I would say around 17-18k too, but if nothing else would definitely pull the nitrous system....I wouldnt buy a nitrous car *used*, no offense! I would buy a really clean blower car, simply because of the $$$ someone else had already invested.

BTW Your car looks really nice, GL!
Shame you couldnt find a way to keep both

Nice looking car. What the other guys posted here about what you can get for it is about right. Word of advice to you and others though, a car can't be "mint" if it has that many miles on it(it's impossible). A mint car will typically be hideously under average mileage, all original or new parts(nothing rebuilt) and not be a daily driver(mint=approx. showroom condition), i.e., a garage queen.
Just fyi :-)

I'd replace the Off Road x back to stock if you still have the stock piece.

It will be tough to register in some states for the buyer without cats on there.

Like the others said, see what offers you get on e-bay. It's a really nice looking car.

Good luck.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but nearly everybody selling used parts thinks he has a gem in his hands. Of course, there's always the one fool who will overpay, but assuming you don't find him...

1.You've got a 42k mile Gt - that's 20k miles /year. That means it's a daily driver and you drive a lot.
2.You've got a 2700 converter which means you rev it a lot even when you don't want to. Those 42k miles must have been pretty rough.
3.Based on the mods, you must drive hard. See #2
4.Nitrous doesn't exactly bring the value up, at least if I were the buyer. Why would anybody want a used nitrous motor?
5. The warranty, if it still would have existed, will not exist anymore.
6. You've drag raced the car...enough said.

If I were looking at your car, I wouldn't pay a penny more than $13k-14k.

Here's my advice...you can either listen or tell me to go f$%* myself. Either way it doesn't bother me...you opened yourself up to critisicm with this post:

If you're going to spend a ridiculous amount of money modifying a car, you have to either be so in love with the car that you plan on keeping it for a long long time, or you do it wisely so you can get a good amount of your investment back once you sell it.

Would you spend $100k fixing up a house just to make yourself happy if you're going to sell it in 2 years and not get back anything close to that amount? And would you fix it up in a certain way where you limit the number of potential buyers because you altered it so much?

So, just to remind you that I've answered your question, I think it's worth $13k-$14k. I hope you get more though.

I still can't understand how that adds up to 42k? New GT: 22k, that leaves 20k in mods, either you got really ripped off or your using canadian dollars or something....

Didn't 2000 GT's come with "GT" on the side instead of the small pony? I thought the small pony was only on V6s? Now I may just know nothing....

If you wanted the resale value on your car, you should have gotten a real saleen.

The thing you are missing is that anyone can go buy a New REAL Saleen S281-SC Coupe for $42K, and it will make about the same power as your car, it will have <100 miles on it, and it will have the 3/36 protection on it.

Your $7,000 stereo adds close to $0 in resale value, save it for your truck.

Another example of why it is cheaper to buy a real Saleen than it is to "build" one yourself.

Best of luck.

I agree with everyone on this one..

I say sell all the aftermarket parts that you can. Hopefully like me you keep a lot of the stock stuff just in case you have a mishap, or need to sell and recoop some money..

So the best thing to do is part it and put all the stock items back on the car that you can.

Put the stereo eqiup in the truck. 7K not lost (sold) in the car.

Only expect to get 13K-15K for the car. The rest you can make up on the after market sell off.

Hope that helps. By the way, nice looking car.

I only paid 12,995 for my GT last Dec. with 50K on the clock. Not clean but no one else was selling any 99 GT's for that or lower around here.

Did you put that Saleen windshield sticker on letter by letter or all at one time? Just curious, but why didn't you go w/the Saleen wheels as well?

Sounds correct to me!

Nice car but like the others are saying, miles kill resale value.

It's an automatic ack

I sold a 85 Chrysler Laser once with 5k in stereo equipment, car had 49k miles and it was 1989. Car was worth nada with stereo equip or without.

Average Joe won't see value in your mods as we do. Re-stock it and part out the mods.

Sorry

Dude,
Sorry that everyone is dogging you out on this post but you kinda did it too yourself. Got a couple of things for you. I dont care what kind of car you have, it will never have a value more that kelly's blue book unless you have a "collector" thats will to pay you what you think its worth. Next, why did you get a truck when you have a *****in mustang? And finally, dont let the folks in this forum get you down. Cars are a eatting cancer and you have to judge them by smiles per hour not miles per hour. Just my 2 cents. Oh and by the way, with only 300 and some rwhp and the money you have invested over the short time you have had the car, it would have been cheap for you to have went a little more "top end".
Later,
Rick

I really don't see anyone here dogging or abusing the guy. They're just telling the truth. Heck, my post appraised at $20k, but of course, I told him I was being nice.
