Dissapointed in dyno #'s

I put my car opn the dyno for the first time this weekend and FFW. They had a mobile unit there. Max hp was 226.5 and max torque was 263.0. My ? is, isn't this low for a car that traps 81.1 mph in the 1/8th? It was very hot and humid out side (if you were there then you know how hot it was. I also ran my car on Friday and it was only trapping 78 mph in the 1/8th were it is usually 81. Can my low #'s just be the heat? Thanks, for any input I'm a little bummed out right now on the #'s.

I'd definetly say so, a cool dense charge or more stable weather would probably get you low 230'sRWHP

I was hoping for more than 230.

My 02 gt showed 239 on a g-tech box on a cool (65ish) afternoon. hot and humid could kill 10 hp easy. You can't race a dyno. just use it as a base line and mod away.

Also depends on the type of dyno. dyno jet will normally show a few more hp than a load bearing dyno. also depends on the calibration of the dyno. Ray

Most dyno results are corrected for weather. You're about where you should be.

A friend of mine who has a modified 6 banger ran the T&T at commerce about a month and a half ago when it was cooler, at night, and not humid and his best ET was 16.4 @ 84 mph. He ran this past weekend at FFW when it was hot, humid, and during the day and his best time was 16.7 @ 81 mph. So I can say that the temp and humidity does play a large role.

If this makes you feel any better I have a friend that dynoed his 93 cobra at FFW this past weekend. We installed a FMS B-cam and new valve springs and he only dynoed at 250rwhp, his previous dyno about 8 months ago was 248rwhp. Needless to say he was pissed off. I've seen a stock bullitt with a prochamber dyno at 236rwhp.

There was also a 2001 there that dynoed 211 and I forgot what the torque was. Anybody else.

it sounds like the dyno was reading low for others so dont' worry about it. if your car is runnin strong at the track then dyno numbers are just for show.

Cool

I've concluded that dynos have a mind of their own.

My GT, with just a K&N and Flowmaster mufflers dynoed 226 rwhp. Then I added the other mods in my sig, and it dynoed 234. Then, last month I went to get a dyno tune because my chip was a little screwy. The baseline was 234, but I never got the tune that day because the tuner didn't have my computer code. So I went back the very next weekend, and the baseline was only 224. WTF?! Where did 10 hp go? Everything was identical...the same dyno machine, the same operator, the same car with the same mods, even the weather was the same (rainy and chilly) both days. When I drove away after the dyno tune, I had 234 again, but I still can't figure out where I lost 10 hp from one Saturday to the next!

Shrug. As long as it runs well at the track, I'm happy.

Could be the chip! Did you have the chip in when you ran the 81mph? If not then I would look towards that to find an answer. Chips are worthless without a dynotune as far as power goes. Correcting for gears and such is another story.

The chip was in when I ran 81. It picked me up a full mph in the 1/8th. The best I had before the chip was 80. That was on a 50 deg. day with low humidity. Then I ran 81 the next week with the chip being the only thing that changed on my car. The day that I ran 81 was in the high 70's with high humidity. I know the 81 mph is not just a freak run because almost every run I trap 81.xxx. Thanks for the replys.

Well, then I'm gonna have to go with a skewed dyno or the temps and humidity killing the power. You should be way above those numders Closer to 240ish rwhp and 280ish rwtq.

Well, lets see... The 01 cobra generally dynos around 275. I would be really surprised to see a GT dyno 240 stock. I think if it did it would have to be putting out around 280 horses at the flywheel. I think thats unlikely. 225 sounds about right for 265 at the fly assuming a 14% driveline loss. By the way, I've owned a 2000 GT... I can definitely feel every bit of a 50 hp difference with the 01 cobra. Granted, the Bullit would probably feel a bit stronger than a GT, but in reality thats from the shift in the power band down to lower RPM's... the max hp numbers are usually within 10 hp of the GT.
