360 rwhp 2003 cobra!?!

in the new 5.0 mag, they have a article in there stating pauls hi-perfomance dyno'd a 03 cobra and got 360 rwhp. and they something about taking the exhaust of, i guess put straight headers on, and got 400 rwhp. i remember people bit*en about maybe only getting 325-330rwhp. looks like they are stronger than what we think!

Maybe. Maybe not. Keep in mind that car was a pre-production model. I do not think we can put any stock in dyno numbers until real cars are picked up by real owners and we start hearing reports from them on what they'll really do. I certainly hope that number is correct, but I want to see it from a real production model before I accept it as gospel.

Ford probably won't even let you look at your exhaust let alone change mufflers, catback etc. or they will have the "void warranty" stamp ready. They are probably sending out tampering notices to the dealers more so than they ever did on this model..

even if it was pre-production, i would think it gives a little hope that they will run quick. all i want to know is when are they going to the 5.4 and supercharge that in a cobra????

My 2cents. I think Ford would be downright retarded if they knowingly brought a car in to be run on a dyno, and that those results would be published in a major Ford magazine, only to release cars that would lay down 320rwhp. And then if they do only put out 320rwhp people start changing the exhaust so they can get what the engine should have, only to have their warranty voided, which isn't legal. Ford should just tell us to jump in the lake now. That would also imply they gave MM&FF a "ringer" to test.

Let's hope that isn't true.

I can't wait for the guys on "Horsepower TV" to get their hands on one. I can see it now:
Baseline run of 275 RWHP.
Add pulleys and Prolong and get 295 RWHP.
Add K&N, and get 315 RWHP.
Add exhaust and get 380 RWHP.

thats a point i didn't think of, if they do put it in a mag, then the production should be just as much, if not more. it would not be wise at all to have it put out less then the mag. hey red, how do you figure 275 rwhp? that would be way more than 15% loss thru the drivetrain!

davescobra,

His knock was against HPTV. If you watch the show often, you'll realize that his attempt at humor is pretty accurate. Those guys are dumbasses, but I still watch the shows religiously.

I dont know if they will void it becasue the exhaust but 100% Guarantee you that if you change the pully or tamper with the computer they will. Actaully what I heard is that when you go buy one they are going to make you sign a paper saying that you will not touch any of it. I think it will probably be ok about the exhaust-maybe- but they will be ALOT more watchful then they have been in the past. But hey if you can make close to 400rw with nothing more than exhaust that will be great- with a warranty.

360 would be good, anything less is waste of a blower on DOHC.

If they do dyno a true 360, that 80+ more RWHP than the 01's!!!!!!!!!! talk about a monster, I can't imagine how these are going to feel, I must have one. 4 valve power at 6000 rpm, and torque to rip the tires at 2000 rpm.

One word about that, ILLEGAL. The dealer can not void a warranty for these reasons. The dealer can only refuse to fix something that has failed under conditions that you have created by moding your car. Now if you come back a month later with another problem that is unrelated they will have to fix it.

those dyno numbers sound really good.

However, what doesn't make much sense to me, is the reported trap speeds of 109-110?? Is the car's weight really that much?? Is the gearing not quite right??

I guess I was expecting more trap speed out of a 360rwhp vehicle, but I also agree with Eric, we probably just need to wait and see what actual owners achieve.

JB Vobra, those are some impressive times for your stock Z06. Do you know how much it weighs? and what was the 1/8 mile speed on your 7.88 run? Any dyno #'s? Just wondering.

Well thats what the did with the Cobra R's... non the of the production ones could match the pre-production ones send for the dyno and comparison test. And this time if there low they can't get sued.... since the car would still be putting out the flywheel advertised HP. I guess we will see.

Did you pm me about this? I never saw anything- so dont roll your eyes at me. If you'd like I will give you his e-mail and you can discuss it with him. I dont know very much about it - all I know is he told me he ran 11.7's with some slicks and a few mods. He lives in GA not near me. So I dont know what it really does - but I guess he could be liying to me
