Pic1: If you look closely, you can see 3 grooves in the alternator housing.
Pic2: The pen tip is pointing to a groove in the alternator, cut by the pulley. The bolt below the pulley mounting hole also suffered some scoring.
Pic3: The ring I'm holding sat on the face of the pulley. I believe it was sheared off a part.
Pic4: Another pulley shot. The dust to the right was inside.
Pic5: You can see metal flakes on the inside.
Pic6: Here's the pulley assembly.
The reason I looked was I started hearing a loud and bad noise on the way home from work today. It would get worse when the a/c kicked on.
I haven't touched that area in months, so there's a couple of things I can't figure out.
(1) Why did I just hear the noise today, when it appears it's been grooving the alt for quite a while? Maybe the ring completely broke off just today?
(2) Everything was assembled correctly. I pulled out the Novi manual and looked at the cad diagrams. Every spacer, bolt, and washer was in the correct spot on the pulley and bracket. Why did it contact the alt this time?
I tried calling Paxton but they'd already closed. I assume I will need a new pulley, but I'm not sure. I don't think the pulley is now capable of walking off the bolt. In the meantime, I've put the stock belt back on and bypassed the s/c.
Help please. Thanks.
